Sunday 6 July Mercat del Riu Rau Jesus Pobre celebrates its first year of life, and does so with encouraging figures that encourage organizers to continue advocacy work and leisure that has become the Mercat: during this year they have been more than 60.000 people that have visited the Mercat.
This initiative began as a small support farmers and producers in the area and offer an alternative sustainable and environmentally friendly trade has become a must for the thousands of people who have visited.
Carles Hostalet, president of the Association of Mercat del Riu Rau says that "The balance cannot be more positive and people's response has exceeded all our expectations". The president added that "Not only those who visit us are happy. The producers have found a showcase where they show everything they know how to do and are looking forward to a child who enjoys playing or creating."
To commemorate this first anniversary, on Sunday they have prepared a great party in which Pep Gimeno 'El Botifarra' and the Valencian singers Josep Aparici “Apa”, Lluís “El Sifoner”, Pep Espinós and Gerard Ramón Tomàs López, accompanied by the musicians Emili Vega, Manolo Miralles and Josep Alemany to the dolçaina. The party will start at 19: 30 and will also be a tribute to the "cants de batre", The songs they sang the farmers while working in the field.
In the Mercat del Riu Rau exhibit their products 35 seasonal artisanal producers, half of which are neighbors of Jesus Pobre.
I think it's great to promote the activities and the products of the farmers, who are so suffering and never well considered. They strive with all their affection and sweat, so that we eat good products.
