17 June 2023 - 15: 09

The new Dénia corporation has already taken possession of its new positions. Now yes, the new legislature begins. Those who will represent the city for the next few years today have promised or sworn in their positions, before choosing who will be the mayor of the municipality.

Representation PSPV, Compromís, PP, Gent of Dénia and Vox has made the first contact with what will be his place of work this legislature. With the plenary hall full, they have elected the new mayor of the city. Without any surprise, PSPV and Compromís, also with the vote of Gent de Dénia in favor of the most voted list and for "stability", have given the Mayor's Office to Vicent Grimalt, which it will maintain until 2026, when it takes over Rafa Carrió.

The beginning of the new legislature

"We will govern for everyone," Vicent Grimalt assured during his long speech in which he thanked the citizens for their confidence in repeating the progressive government that they will share with Compromís as partners. He has assured that they will govern "with an outstretched hand but fulfilling their defined roadmap", for the defense of universal rights and in order to achieve that city for the people.

He has had words of gratitude for the outgoing Generalitat government, with which he has assured it has been easy to work, and he has been very pessimistic with the incoming one, referring to the latest statements by Vox deniers of gender violence, against of the Valencian language and culture, and who once again seeks to "throw dirt over the graves".

New times with an already known government

As expected, he has had the support of his group, the PSPV, on behalf of which the spokesperson has spoken, Maria Josep Ripoll, making a plea to the work from the City Council for a city with which he has wanted to respond to those who ask them if it is worth it with a resounding "of course it is worth the effort", defending that they have come "to fulfill the mandate of citizenship» together with Compromís.

"These are new times," said Rafa Carrió on behalf of Compromís. “Times to leave old conflicts behind and look to the future for the good of our neighbors. These are times of dialogue, transparency, proximity, agreement and progress. Times to manage Dénia from a future perspective ». The Valencian man, and future mayor, thanked his voters and congratulated Grimalt, assuring that he will work for dialogue and consensus, seeking the best for the city.

Opposition willing to seek consensus

Pepa Font, spokesman for the main opposition force, the Popular Party, has thanked the good results obtained by his formation in the last elections. "In all these issues that, through dialogue, negotiation and sharing, are beneficial for the city, they found us on their side, and not only in Dénia, but in the other supra-municipal institutions", Font provided, but He warned at the same time: «If your idea is not to reach consensus, impose without dialogue and not listen to the neighbors, then they will find us in front».

mario vidal, leader of Gent de Dénia, has recalled the importance of his party, the oldest local in the country, maintaining representation in the City Council, thanking the trust of his voters. In addition, he has left the door open to work alongside the new government, as he did in the last legislature, being willing to accept the tasks entrusted to him.

Félix Redondo, representative of Vox in Dénia and which premiered at the City Hall, began his speech by recalling the figure of the journalist Paco Serradell, who was the founder and director of Canfali until his death in 2019, and thanking him for being able to give voice to those who, according to the new councilor, did not have it until now in the consistory.
