The regeneration of Les Deveses de Dénia manages to recover thirty meters of width in the coastal area

February 19 from 2024 - 13: 50

The Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has visited with the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, the actions promoted by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge on the beach of Les Deveses and explained how the area has recovered "the physiognomy of the coast of the 60s with a stable width of at least thirty meters"

Bernabé highlights that the project has involved an investment of more than fifteen million euros, to which another five million euros are added for maintenance. This is “the second most important investment carried out by the Government for coastal regeneration in 2023”, he declared.

«It is to be happy, after spending so many years demanding a solution to this degradation in which the sea was eating away at the houses. Furthermore, the tourist image of Dénia now has nothing to do with that of last year, this summer visitors will enjoy it a lot," said Vicent Grimalt.

As explained by the head of the Provincial Service, Rosa de los Ríos, the actions have included the construction of two new breakwaters and the growth of the existing one in the area closest to the provincial limit of Alicante, as well as the contribution of 650.000 cubic meters of sand. coming from the Cullera marine deposit that allows reaching a minimum beach width of 30 meters.

De los Ríos added that this contribution of sand was carried out in "record time", in ten days, and that many residents were surprised by the fact that, from one day to the next, the coast had recovered those 30 meters of width.

Furthermore, he has pointed out that although the Les Deveses regeneration project was approved in 2023 (it was completed in December of that same year), since 2013, "studies were already being carried out because it was seen that this coastal area suffered from serious erosion.

Bernabé has expressed that it is also "a dune regeneration work to guarantee the amount of sand that can be a reservoir for the future." Mayor Pego, Enrique Moll, has referred to this, who has declared that the objective is to "protect private properties" in a situation in which "the dunes had disappeared and the water was already reaching the homes."

According to the delegate, the regeneration of Les Deveses responds to the need for recovery and environmental improvement of the area "with the aim of stopping the regression of the beach and recovering a stable width of sand of at least 30 meters, during the next 25 years".

Frankly, a quick and well-done work, a great recovery of our coastline with investments for its maintenance. Bravo for the Government!
The Mayor and some henchmen already have his photo “inaugurated” something that he has not done and the definitive application of the Coastal Law to protect our coastline from the massive construction, overpopulation and cement always supported by the City Council and its shameful "sustainable tourism ".
Fix and protect, that's how it's done!
