«The Valgamedios square, paradigm of the new Dénia»

May 04 from 2023 - 15: 50

The Valgamedios square has become a paradigmatic case of the urban transformation that the Dénia government has carried out in recent years. A relatively small space, quite forgotten except when, every March, it hosts the monument of the West fails; a historic square in the city (one of the old entrances to the wall) invaded by cars and drowned out by the volume of traffic that surrounded it.

This week we have finished off the actions in the new Valgamedios, also known as the Plaza del Oeste, with more furniture and original garden elements that have completed the transformation of this space into an authentic square, to live and share. One more of the emblematic places in Dénia that have recovered their charm and have been recovered for people.

The latest example of a long list of improvements that have helped the city move in the same direction: that of urban modernization and sustainability. Few are the large European cities that have not closed their urban centers to traffic, a trend triggered after the episode of the pandemic that has made us reflect so much on how we want to live in the future.

The transition to normality made us see very clearly that we wanted a city to walk around and enjoy, so that boys and girls can play in the streets and walk safely to school; where you can breathe while the cars remain parked on the outskirts, in a 'city of 10' where walking between two points in the urban area does not usually take more than ten minutes.

'Son' of that post-pandemic transition is the new pedestrian Marqués de Campo street, right now under construction to consolidate the closure to traffic and its 'pedestrian' character. Parallel to the transformation of Glorieta and its surroundings (Golpe, Ramón y Cajal, Vicent Andrés Estellés), as a continuation of the redevelopment of Major, Padre Pere and Tenor Cortis streets.

In the previous legislature, revolutionary was the intervention in the Archduke Carlos square, another of those relegated spaces, the old bus station, also collapsed by traffic. Now, a square full of life, with vegetation and a children's playground.

The streets of Colón, Sandunga, el Mar, began the path of this transformation, aesthetics and uses, which has undoubtedly improved the urban quality of our city and the quality of life of its inhabitants.

Because decongesting traffic in the centers of our cities is not only a commitment to a change in the urban model, but also to a transformation in the philosophy of life and, even, in the economic concept: few people defend the closure of streets to traffic. such as Marqués de Campo have harmed local commerce.

Instead, shops and restaurants now benefit from a lively main street, not cars.

Please let things be done slowly and "heartfelt". Seek Harmony of the square with what has been built, its history and then the color of the pots is handled… ..

Red, green, nor is it cheerful. It is not appropriate especially in this place.

How much I would like to publish it, that is, the facades of the houses are painted with a certain Harmony
and that everyone does not do what they want, but that the city council dictates certain rules with the support of a specialist or only with an architect who is sensitive to the fact that we have a city that aims for a certain beauty and
harmony. We have a historic city that deserves it.

I have always liked this square, and its facades, have a certain Harmony.

    Brightly colored pots spoil everything.

    The facades of the square

The aberration of the telecommunications tower in les Rotas another paradigm of the Dénia City Council.
Let's see if they are able to rectify and disassemble it.

Putting a few shady spots would have been more appropriate. Today they only know how to make public squares without a single shadow, and in the face of summer they are authentic ovens. Wow technicians!!!

All very good and very nice
The same cannot be said of Ondara street in the section that coincides with the back of the Repsol gas station
This section of street has not been lit for years despite complaints from residents and users of this street, who are forced to pass through the ridiculous pedestrian crossing at the gas station at night, with the consequent potential risk of accidents.
I agree that Denia is Life; But not like that
The elections are very close and it does not seem that they are going to act to illuminate this street
Let's hope that whoever wins the elections does so, whoever wins.
