«ALS consumes the time of my life»

February 02 from 2012 - 00: 00

Leo has 44 years, is married, has two daughters of 17 and 19 years and suffers from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) since 5 years, a degenerative disease of neuromuscular type that causes progressive paralysis.

So you can only shake your head and can not speak, so they need help the 24 hours a day. But instead, it helps 8 hours a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), which is the time that comes to his home a woman sent by the city of Dénia.

Privately must afford a woman who comes home every day to help feed, but your pocket does not allow you to hire anyone longer than absolutely necessary.

On behalf of the Generalitat receives a non-contributory pension, but since last summer they do not pay him because "There is no money".

Now Leo has decided to use social networks to send a letter to the mayor of Dénia, Ana Kringe, explaining his situation as a dependent and asking him to intercede to improve the help he receives and request that the person who comes to his house to help him go at least every day of the week.

* In 2010, Leo and other members of the Platform Affected by the ELA were received in audience by Her Royal Highness Princess Letizia at the Palacio de la Zarzuela.

This is his letter:

Ana, I guess you're sick of you write, but I have no one else to turn, you're my mayor. This morning at 6 I thought of you, and in my situation: HOW IS POSSIBLE IN 2012 IN DENIA A HIGHLY DEPENDENT PERSON (do not forget that just shake my head, I was speechless, unable to speak, sometimes choked me with my own saliva) ILL HEALING WITH REQUIREMENT WITHOUT NOTICE TO DAY 24H ONLY HAVE A START BY THE CITY COUNCIL MONDAY WOMEN 3 hours, 2 hours WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY 3 hours, and I still have Q thank you?

Only you can do that come Tuesday and Thursday to attend me a few hours, often I stay alone with my dogs but they can not assist me, although I adore.

You know that I am paying a woman ONLY FOR FOOD, breakfast, lunch and dinner, I can not help ... I can not even press the button of the Red Cross help phone for emergencies.

I invite you to my house for tea and meet us personally.

I HOPE YOUR ANSWER ANXIOUS

Fortunately, Leo has the invaluable help of his family and friends, and the support of each and every one of the people who know his situation, in addition to an enviable strength.

Be brave, Leo!

Cristina, nice, I understand that your words are not to hurt, but quite the opposite, but keep in mind that what you tell if you read Leo can cause enough concern to say the least (even though she already knows). I understand your pain and I want you to know that there is a place in the free municipality where psychologically you can help if you want (ask at youth).
Leo is an admirable woman, who from great physical limitation, cares for her daughters and is very active at other levels. It is really admirable and all the support it deserves.
We think that we can happen to us or loved one.
According to Lucia, if he has already received the help, it would not hurt to put it in this article, as an appendix.
She has had a hard time receiving the help, but she and only she has achieved it with that tenacity that characterizes her.

  2. Edna says:

    Hello

  3. Juan says:

  4. Cristina says:

Hi Leo, I have 22 years ago my mother died one after being against all odds 12 years with ALS. 3 recent years were the worst, 24 hras with her, and above her suffer, unable to speak, and know that all I wanted was to go quiet. We asked for help and only palliative cancer patients are entitled to it ..
Just I remember if not in bed, feeding him, believing he was dying in front of me because he choked on his own saliva or diapering ..
Much encouragement to your daughters !! Is what they are going, I just hope it does not last much.

  5. Luz Maria says:

I hope Leo that you can receive the help you need so much. I have lived the disease closely and I need money, time and a lot of love to cope.
I send you all my vibes so you can be heard and helped-
    regards

  6. Antonio says:

I admire the story of Leo, take 5 years struggling with the disease is not easy, and as I read in Spain are many people who need more help because they are big dependents, recently came across an incredible case of a patient who consider how to overcome his illness.

  8. Paco says:

Hello Leo I understand perfectly what you ask your Mayor, and I give you all my moral support so that you continue with that integrity and get these politicians understand that we do not ask for it on a whim.
I am another affected in this cruel disease, but have not yet reached the situation where your you are.
TOLD TO FIGHT AND GET YOUR RIGHTS.
    GREETINGS PACO.

  9. Lucia says:

Look what happens, because I think that the mayor has already solved it. Leo says so on his wall.
It is fair to cane the town hall, but it is also fair to say when measures are taken.
    Leo kiss

  10. Jesús Ortega says:

Mrs. Mayoress, I beg respectfully to please see what your local council budget can be trimmed a little money to help your paisana.Es a very cruel disease and can not stop lying to this superwoman, which pretty does.
