The Councilor for Urban Planning shares the process of adapting Dénia to children during the training session 'Ciutats Amigues de la Infància'

The Councilor for Territory and Urban Quality of the Dénia City Council, Maria Josep Ripoll, participated yesterday, Wednesday, January 17, in the 'Child Friendly Cities' training session held in Sagunt. Ripoll participated in the round table Municipal experiences on the right to play, use of public space and urban planning with a childhood focus, moderated by Elena Filella, head of Local Children's Policies at UNICEF Valencian Community, in which the director of the Sports, Culture, Education and Youth Area of ​​the Almussafes City Council, Alfonso López, and the councilor for Urban Planning, Territory also participated. and Landscape of the Poble Nou de Benitatxell Town Hall, Jorge Pascual Fortes.

The Department of Territory and Urban Quality spoke about the policies developed by the local government "focused on making Dénia a more pleasant and accessible city" and, more specifically, presented our city's experience in the transformation of spaces, such as the Plaza de Valgamedios or playgrounds, from the perspective of the little ones. "As a Child-Friendly City, in Dénia we have taken into account the needs of children in the projects carried out, encouraging their participation and incorporating, when possible, play spaces and other suggestions," said Ripoll.

Of these projects, the councilor Deniera highlighted to the public attending the day the improvement of the Plaza de Jaume I, with the renovation of the playgrounds of this urban space highly frequented by the city's children and the project to calm traffic in the square where work is currently being done.

Ripoll also mentioned the examples of the redevelopment of Plaza de Valgamedios and Calle Mayor, the conversion of Calle del Marqués de Campo into a pedestrian zone and the redevelopment of Glorieta, «three connected projects that have allowed us to generate a safe and pedestrian-friendly route from the western part of the city to the port. Parking space has been eliminated and replaced with large spaces.

The Councilor for Territory highlighted "the important role in the transformation of Dénia" that the Local Council for Childhood and Adolescence (CLIA) has, which has been consulted to know the needs and design of children's play areas or to define paths insurance to school, to name two examples. This year, in addition, the participatory budgets have included an intergenerational budget item that will be allocated to the actions chosen between the CLIA and the Elderly Council.
