The Dénia City Council will reward the inclusion of Spanish and English in the Fallas criticism

February 09 from 2023 - 14: 44

In the session of the Governing Board on Wednesday, February 8, the bases for the celebration of three Fallas awards were approved: the one for tourist criticism, the one for diversity and the one for equality. One of the great novelties of this 2023 is the introduction of a second and third prize for diversity and equality, as confirmed by the councilor for the area, Javier Scotto, «in order to recognize the great work that is carried out from many failures».

On the one hand, the diversity award has the objective of "making visible and normalizing diversity in the area of Dénia's Fallas, addressing sexual, gender and family diversity, and contributing to making a more inclusive and egalitarian society ». The contest contemplates the delivery of three prizes: the first with an endowment of 600 euros, a second of 300 euros and the third with 150 euros; all of them accompanied by an accrediting pennant. These will be awarded by a jury made up of the Councilor for Equality, as president; representation of social entities and technical staff from the Departments of Equality, Linguistic Normalization and Festivals, as secretariat of the jury.

To qualify for the award, the failures must refer to the fight for diversity in the monument, taking into account "the values of irony, criticism, grace and ingenuity" of the posters and the ninots, in addition to carrying out specific communicative actions in the social networks, or talks, workshops, and any activity of an informative nature. The use of non-sexist and inclusive language, the visibility and normalization of the LGTBI+ reality and social inclusion will also be taken into account when awarding the awards.

At the same time, the bases of the Fallas equality award have also been approved. The purpose of this initiative is "to encourage, promote and enhance equality between women and men, and combat gender violence". The prizes will be three; the first with a value of 600 euros, the second with 300 and the third with an economic amount of 150 euros, all three accompanied by an accrediting pennant. The evaluation of the candidacies will be carried out by a jury made up of the Councilor for Equality, as president; representation of the Dénia Women's Council and technical representation of the Departments of Fiestas, Linguistic Normalization and Equality, with secretarial functions.

In this category, in addition to taking into account the dissemination of messages against sexism and the use of inclusive language, the presence of women on the commission's board of directors and the objectives of parity and breaking the glass ceiling will be valued.

Fallero Award for Tourism Criticism

The bases of the tourist critic award have also been approved, where it is stipulated that both the design of the monument and the written criticism will be valued, which must be written in Valencian, earning 0,5 points for including Spanish and other 0,5 .XNUMX for the inclusion of English. The jury will be made up of the Councilor for Tourism, Vicent Grimalt, as president of the jury; a worker or worker from the Department of Tourism, as secretary; and other people related to the City Council and the tourism sector. Three prizes will be awarded; the first prize with an economic endowment of 750 euros and the delivery of a pennant; a second prize of 450 euros and the third with an award of 300 euros.

Well, if you politicians want to isolate yourself, then there with your closure and palurdez.
Do not encourage anyone to follow your bad example of animosity towards rationality. THEY WILL NOT ACHIEVE THEIR OBJECTIVE.
Denia is not like that. The reflection that we have of Denia (I have known it for more than 45 years) is different, although lately it has changed, it has lost footing, agriculture, industry and due to the most recent crises, shops and commerce, which were endearing and for the moment cannot be repaired.
Practically only the "retirement of the elderly foreigners" and the hotel industry remain, which will also have to accommodate to the fact that not only "the elite" come. The times are different. They will have to adjust and NOT SCARE and inconvenience the VISITOR, the residents in general and passers-by. IT IS IDEAL AND THE BEST FOR EVERYONE
    Good morning.

  2. María Ivars says:

In Alicante we live from tourism, we have to make visitors feel comfortable.
In New York all the signage is in English and Spanish.
    !!! Let's not be rednecks

  3. Pedro says:

Valencians need spaces for socialization and Las Fallas were one of those spaces, because when faced with very powerful languages (Spanish and English are in the top 3 world languages) the smallest always loses.

Be careful, I am not saying that there cannot be anything in Spanish and English, like a wink. But the fallas must be hegemonically in Valencian because the Valencian needs its spaces

  4. Andreu says:

Incredible, the failures have survived the prohibition of writing in our language, it has been an immense task in the normalization of Valencia.
Ara all aço perdut, incredible, we will end up posting "good day" and the remainder in Spanish and English, of the Germans, Dutch, Russians, Chinese, and for those who are not Valencians, that they know.
Per certify there is the "google translator," which translates into many languages.
Don't cal fer things difficult and both want to create conflicts.

    • Amelia says:

Let's see, it's a shame if you don't understand it, you don't enjoy it. That happened to me a lot of years ago!!!
I've been living in Ibiza for 30 years… now I can enjoy the fallas!!!
After all, you have a lot of tourism. English and Spanish would be fine.

  5. Marie says:

Before, in the Falla Baix la mar there were posters in several languages. Last year this very good initiative was left. A pity for all the foreigners who visit us.

  6. C says:

Every day more nonsense. The Fallas are Valencian, well, in Valencia.

    • Pillar says:

So you don't want anyone to come see your Fallas. It does not evolve. We love Valencian but if you want to share…. hardly. Little empathy!!. This is discrimination and exclusion, and this is not good, it ends up generating hatred. !!Mare Meua!! , I learn Valencian, "wherever you go, do what you see", but with love

  7. Antonio says:

All measures, including language, a setback

  8. Ignacio says:

The tyranny of the Woke culture now even in the Fallas and also paying for it.
