Dénia ask the DGT that helmet use for cyclists on urban roads not required

10 June 2013 - 00: 02

The Board of Government held last week approved the proposal of the Councilor for Environment and Sports, Juan Carlos Signes, to request the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) not to include the mandatory use of helmet for cyclists on urban roads in the reform of the General Circulation Regulations.

councilman Vicente Chelet Said that the measure intends to implement the DGT would be detrimental to the actions in favor of the use of the bicycle made by the city. The mayor considers that the compulsory use of the helmet in the city "negatively affects the use of the public bicycle rental service", acting as a deterrent for potential users.

Denia is a tourist town and "very calm", with a circulation rhythm that differs a lot from that of the big capitals. In addition, the city has more than 15 kilometers of bike lanes and cycle lanes enabled by the city council throughout the urban area.
