Dénia has been present this weekend at the Manises Ceramic Festival. An annual event that highlights the great tradition and innovative potential of a craft and industrial sector that has led the municipality of l'Horta to form part of the UNESCO Creative Cities network.

Manises, integrated into the field of Crafts and Popular Arts, has invited this year to the festival the other two Valencian cities of the UNESCO network: Llíria, city of Music, and Dénia, of Gastronomy.

For two days, the artisan Cristina Pedrós Vila, from the workshop defangcuit de Jesús Pobre, has exhibited his work and has given workshops for children and adults at the Dénia stand. Cristina Pedrós makes unique artisan pieces, for domestic use or as decorative objects, which connect directly with the natural environment. Part of the material shown used vine ash powder from muscatel vines to achieve unique textures and colors.

The ceramist has a close personal relationship with Manises, since she had trained and has taught courses at the prestigious School of Ceramics in the city.

The Dénia delegation, headed by the director of the Innovation and Creativity Office, Floren Terrades, was received by the mayor of Manises, Javier Mansilla, and in the company of representatives of other Creative Cities from various parts of the world, visited the Ceramics Museum, which includes an impressive journey through the production of artisans and businesses in the town throughout history: household objects, crockery, decorative counters, tiles, flooring, etc.

At the Ceramics Festival, artisans, companies and ceramic associations have taken their workshops out into the street to exhibit their work and involve the population in an activity that has marked the image, fame and life of the city of manises

Craftsmen from the cities of Madaba (Jordan), Kütahya (Turkey), Paducah (United States) and Barcelos (Portugal) were also present at the meeting, which, like Manises, are part of the field of Crafts and Popular Arts of the network of Cities UNESCO Creatives.

The representatives of Dénia took advantage of the meeting to exchange information and establish contacts with all of them.
