Dénia places new traffic lights on the train track for "clueless people"

November 10 from 2023 - 09: 51

Since the TRAM service was reactivated at the beginning of the year, the signage installed at the intersections through which the Dénia road passes has been questioned. And this is due to one reason only: the lack of barriers. The drivers had gotten used to the barriers being lowered at those points when the train was about to pass and they were no longer there. There are traffic lights, there are STOP signs, but a sector of the population continues to question the safety of the crossings.

There have been some scares these months. The train has come to collisions with a couple of vehicles that have not respected the signals, so these accidents could have been avoided by acting as at any intersection in the city: attending to the traffic light or STOP. However, they are always minor collisions because the train runs at low speed through urban sections, which allows it to stop quickly.

However, in the case of pedestrian crossings, a collision can entail a risk, no matter how low the speed. And it has already been experienced during this time, but luckily without serious consequences. Even on that occasion, the lack of barriers was wrongly pointed out as the reason why the pedestrian had been run over, but the truth is that the barriers have never been in the pedestrian crossings, they have always been for vehicles.

New zombie traffic lights in Dénia

In addition to the many safety measures that the pedestrian crossing on the road has, such as the zigzag circuit with metal bars and the different signs, a new one has now been added for the most clueless who could, despite everything, cross without warning. what they had around them. These are the so-called zombie traffic lights, light bars with the colors of the traffic light located on the ground to attract the attention of those who walk by looking at their mobile phone or looking at their feet.

Since this week, as shared by the Councilor for Urban Planning, Maria Josep Ripoll, on social networks, the different pedestrian crossings on the Dénia road will have this new resource to avoid accidents.
