In August, 2015 left us one of the most representative contemporary writers, and at the same time, less recognized of our territory, Rafael Chirbes. The set of his narrative and critical work collects some fragments of his own biography, episodes that marked his childhood and youth. But also his love for the nearest gastronomy, through the articles in Sobremesa; or your travels around the world.
Now, almost two years after his death, Dénia will welcome the I International Congress L'Univers by Rafael Chirbes. Between the 9 and the 12 of May, a dozen speakers and 40 communicators will analyze the biographical aspects of the disappeared writer, as well as his narrative and essay work through different facets that Chirbes himself developed.
The Congress has been promoted by the Rafael Chirbes Foundation, whose headquarters is in the writer's house in Beniarbeig, and is coordinated by the Department of Spanish Philology of the Universitat de València.
The director of the Chirbes Foundation, Manolo Micó, explained that this congress was born after conversations held between people from the literary world who wanted to praise the figure of Chirbes, and finally it was concluded that the most appropriate was the start-up of this congress.
The first day, the 9 of May, the congress will take place at the facilities of the University of Valencia. The rest of the days, the presentations will take place in Dénia, both in the Paraula house as in the Social Center.
The presentation of the congress was attended by the councilor of culture, Rafa Carrió, who remembered the figure of Chirbes and the important work of the Foundation. There was also the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, who thanked the Foundation for the important commitment to the congress to be held in Dénia, a place to which the writer was very close.
