Dozens of people protest against the Ministry's cuts in the Official Language School of Dénia and Xàbia

18 2024 April - 18: 37

This Thursday at 17:50 p.m., dozens of people demonstrated in front of the IES Sorts de la Mar in Dénia to protest against the cuts in the Official Language School (EOI) of Dénia and in the Xàbia. Under the slogans "Languages open doors, cuts close minds", "no language is left over" and "RIP EOI", attendees have shown their disagreement with this new measure announced by the Ministry this week.

In Dénia it is intended to eliminate 12 English, French and Spanish groups for foreigners, while in Xàbia it would mean the definitive closure of the center after remaining open for 20 years and having more than 100 students per year.

Now the inhabitants of Xàbia will have to travel to Dénia if they want to learn a language, although the IES Sorts de la Mar in Dénia already had waiting lists prior to this announcement.

Let's be truthful the government of Dénia does not want “foreigners” living here- but without our money they would not survive A few visitors from Madrid to eat the fantastic Dénia red prawn does not keep a town running It starts with the Alcaldí insisting on holding meetings in Valencian – fine have your local dialect but Castellano is the language of Spain Please don't reply with the usual rubbish- “if you don't like it go home” as I do like living in Dénia but have distinct feeling of anti expats exists

Leaving culture and education in the hands of incompetent, vindictive people has its consequences, they have the power but they do not represent us.
