From black point to camper paradise: the caravans take over the first line of Dénia

February 21 from 2022 - 12: 40

Dénia had an outstanding debt with caravan tourism, since for years we maintained a controversial unjust law, as admitted by the City Council a few months ago. Now, shortly after its elimination, the city seems to have reconciled with these visitors, although with certain frictions that have to be ironed out.

Last November, the Councilor for Citizen Protection, Javier Scotto, announced that an old ban that prevented caravans from parking in beach car parks was being lifted. This turned Dénia into a black spot for this type of tourism, since its regulations did not understand that these vehicles were just that, vehicles, and not just homes. It prevented them from using car parks, assuming that their owners would use them for camping, despite the fact that they can also be used to move around like any car or motorcycle.

During the plenary session of that month, the elimination was approved and, since then, the caravans can use the parking areas on the beaches, although it is still prohibited to spend the night in those places enabled only for parking.

A couple of months later you can already see the great reception of this measure, because this weekend dozens of caravans have taken over several beaches in Dénia. El Trampolí and Punta del Raset have been the ones that have received the most visitors, filling the parking spaces to spend a day at the beach. And some, yes, even at night.

Pending tasks for the high season

Although the rule is clear, some caravan owners have taken advantage of the new situation to spend the night on the front line. In the same way, in the case of Les Rotes beach, some of these vehicles occupied areas not available for parking, which has generated criticism among residents, who are concerned above all about the visual impact that this entails in a space as limited as the from El Trampoli.

It is only February, so it is expected that the interest of caravan tourism in Dénia will continue to grow in the coming months. And even more so with the arrival of the high season, although it remains to be seen how it will coexist with the existing one to date, seeing how small the car parks are with these new visitors.
