The President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, has underlined the importance of reinforcing public health to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic in the best conditions, during the ceremony for the Year Awards granted by Levante-EMV and Prensa Ibérica to the groups that are in the first line of the fight against coronavirus.

Puig has attended the first of the awards ceremony of the Year awarded by Levante-EMV and Prensa Ibérica -five events will be held, one for each award-, in which awards have been granted to the official medical professional associations , Nursing, Pharmacy, Biology and Veterinary Medicine.

During his speech, the head of the Consell recognized the great work done by these groups, and appealed "to concentric co-responsibility" to continue adopting measures that contribute to strengthening health.

"We have a very powerful public health system - the president continued - but which has also demonstrated its weaknesses and its uncertainties, and now is the time to take advantage of this path in the defense of public, universal and quality health to reinforce it and to make necessary reforms ".

For this reason, Puig has indicated that "a transformation of the public health model must be carried out to provide us with greater guarantees and greater security and have a cohesive and fair society, in which no one is left out."

"Spanish public health has served all people, regardless of their condition, and that deserves that we be able to strengthen it and provide it with all sufficient means and link it to research, because without science there is no future", has affirmed the head of the Consell.

In this sense, Puig has expressed his confidence that "if we are together, we work with intelligence and thinking about the general interest, we will save many lives and the dignity of a society that has the right to look forward."
