Consellería suppresses patrol surveillance of the marine reserve of Cape San Antonio

February 01 from 2013 - 00: 00

The budgetary cuts of the Generalitat have left the marine reserve of Cabo de San Antonio without a surveillance patrol.

As the BLOC denounces, yesterday they performed their last service, leaving at their mercy to poachers and putting in danger the survival of the flora and fauna of the marine reserve.

El PSOEFor his part, he recalled that a month ago the plenary session of Dénia approved a motion in which the Consellería was urged to maintain this surveillance patrol.

Until yesterday, the surveillance patrol, formed by two people, toured the marine reserve helping to avoid illegal fishing of pieces such as grouper or sea urchins and even collaborated in rescues of boats and surfers when necessary.

The secretary of the nationalists, Sebastià García, asked the government team to speak out and seek collaboration from other entities to finance this service and ensure the continuity of the surveillance.

For the nationalists "Ending this service has a very negative impact on the territory and also on the tourism of Dénia, since offering quality in the territory attracts quality tourism".

Juan Carlos Signes, Councilor for the Environment at the town hall, said he was aware of the problem. The department is currently awaiting a response from Consellería, but Signes says that they are already working on another option so that the marine reserve is not left unattended.

But not only the marine reserve has suffered cuts, also the Natural Park, where surveillance has been reduced in recent months by decision of the Ministry.
