Open letter from Verónica Mengual (journalist and writer): "There are no extra vaccines, socialist councilor, there is no responsibility"

January 27 from 2021 - 11: 20

My name is Verónica Mengual. We are four infected in my family by coronavirus. The father of my children and my children have fallen like flies. If you ask me where my family got it from, I would dare to say without a doubt that in the Santa Llúcia Residence for the Elderly in Dénia. Why would I say this? Because for more than seven years the father of my children has been the gardener of this enclosure and because at the time, he was infected in that first wave that left almost thirty infected in the residence. Can I be wrong? Yes. Do I have the right to be angry when they say there was a vaccine left over? Yes.

Today, Wednesday, we got out of bed for the first time in almost a week, almost all of them, because the father of my children is still weak and suffocates when breathing. It would have been better for us not to look at the news, especially one that says that a socialist mayor was vaccinated because there was plenty of vaccine. I don't think there is any excess, my lady, because perhaps it was from that gardener who has been working at the Residence for more than seven years, and for that at the time they also refused to do the PCR tests (or those that Mr. Antonio González did) When the pandemic broke out, I was more entitled to that dose. Maybe not. They excuse themselves because it belongs to another department. I laugh, without humor, at his assumption, especially when I have seen my two children in bed afraid of dying from the disease, and crying to see their father drowning. More when the kind of little son has been confined, because, perhaps, there was a vaccine left over. Because my mother is a risk factor and we have also infected my nephew.

Was there too much? A mileurista pawn from the Dénia city council who has not been taken into account even when making a simple test, which had to be forced at the time by Human Resources to take it into account. Was there a vaccine left over? And again we see that resign is not a verb.

If you're going to use the department excuse, think about it carefully. All of God has been vaccinated in the Residence, by criteria, by decency and because it was what had to be done. Everyone except the gardener who has a fever of forty, who we have taken turns taking care of between him and me and my children. With a dog that hasn't been out on the street for seven days.

And the custodians who depend on Education and work in the Residence? Sing the mea culpa and since you can't go back in time and do things right, do them now. Was there a vaccine left over? I am not a spiritual person, but for the love of God, do not say again that a vaccine is left over, not when my family is as it is because the political class has jumped the channels and once again puts at risk those who should not be. Seven years in residence and no consideration from any politician. One department blames the other. But there was a vaccine left over.

What prompts me to ask you to make a reflection, Madam Councilor, as you will understand, is the monumental anger that I drag when I see your explanations that neither matter to me, nor do I love them, nor do they satisfy me. The father of my children ... the one who had been working for seven years and who could be a risk for the residents themselves and has been a risk for his family, didn't he deserve to be vaccinated before you?

What good is it to me if you tell me that wages have not been lowered since this pandemic, because they work more than before, when a worker that you must watch over is not taken into account? Make him look, because I don't care about three pairs of noses that are red, blue, lilac, green or purple. I believe that they have played with the health of my family and that I will not forgive.
