Radical changes in neighborhoods in decline and possible solutions to housing prices: the PSPV program in 10 promises for Dénia

05 2023 April - 14: 11

This week took place the presentation of the program of the PSPV in Denia. This is the first major act open to the public of the formation that has governed the city this last legislature. The expectation was enormous, filling the assembly hall of the House of Culture.

Vicent Grimalt, who is running for re-election as mayor on May 28, introduced the presentation of the program with which the PSPV wants to renew its commitment to the citizenry and which includes more than 40 proposals. "We like the facts, not the smoke," he insisted.

The main objectives of the program, affirm the Socialists, is to remain faithful to "the great milestones" that have been worked on during the two legislatures: the improvement of urban space and its transformation from the perspective of the enjoyment of people, the city university, sustainability, from an environmental and economic point of view, the improvement and provision of infrastructures (educational, sports, services, etc.) and policies for children, young people and the elderly.

Of the 40 points of the electoral program of the PSPV Dénia, these 10 stand out:

New Jaume I square

Dénia's mission, according to the PSPV, is to ensure that the city's children and adolescents enjoy 30% of their leisure time in public space. In recent years, the playgrounds in Plaza Jaume I have been improved, but now the Socialists are committed to a comprehensive remodeling of the square to make it a safe, friendly and intergenerational meeting space for the enjoyment of citizens and especially of More smalls.

This action has a budget of €500.000 and aims to finish the landscaping and improve the security of the space during 2024.

A fairground like the one in Gandia, but on the Torrecremada esplanade

They propose creating an ideas contest to remodel the Torrecremada esplanade without compromising its current uses (such as the location of the market on Mondays and the fair, parking area and concert space), but giving it a more friendly image and integrated into the complex urban, similar to the Gandia fairgrounds.

With the remodeling of the Casa de Torrecremada as a university headquarters and the improvement of the Casa de la Cultura, it is necessary to connect the two spaces through the paved esplanade of Torrecremada.

It is somewhat similar to projects already presented by rival parties, but with differences that the socialists assume as advantageous. "It is an undeveloped and floodable area, so we will not be the ones who propose projects that cannot be done."

Conclude the transformation of Les Roques

In 2018, work was done on the redevelopment of Carrer de Sant Francesc. From 2023 to 2027, the PSPV promises to redevelop the rest of the streets in the neighborhood. The objective of the action is to eliminate architectural barriers and make the neighborhood more accessible with the implementation of the single platform.

The planned investment is around 6.6 million euros. To carry it out, they will request economic aid for the execution from the Diputación, Generalitat and European Funds.

The redevelopment will begin with the streets below (San Antoni, San Pascual, etc.) and will go up until completing a fully renovated and modernized neighborhood.

Radical change in calle Elx and Grup Antonio Català, greener and with more sidewalks

For the Grimalt team, this small area of the city needs to widen the sidewalks, improve the paving of the roads, incorporate a single platform in narrow streets, and wherever possible, introduce trees and urban greenery.

In this way, they affirm, it will improve the urban aesthetics but also the quality of life of the residents of the neighborhood with an investment of 1.3 million that they plan to obtain through subsidies from the Provincial Council, Generalitat and European Funds.

New image for Paris-Pedrera

In this legislature, the Strategic Trade Plan has been launched with which European financing has been obtained for the modernization of Dénia's trade with 1.5 million euros.

For this reason, the Socialists promise that in the coming months the urbanization of Sagunt street will be undertaken and in the coming years the surrounding streets to improve public space and facilitate shopping in the small local shops in the Jaume I area. and Marquesado avenue.

Creation of the university city

2023-2027 will be the legislature in which the Dénia Ciudad Universitaria project is consolidated, which is practically a fact with the remodeling of the Torrecremada estate and the confirmation from the University of Alicante that the Degree in Gastronomy, in the classroom that will be built with European funding: 1,4 million euros for drawing up the projects for a classroom for some 800 students, student residence and a new headquarters for the UNED.

But in addition, the Building Plan of the Generalitat already includes two new fundamental educational infrastructures: the demanded new Conservatory (on the plot where Raquel Payà is now located, which will soon also have a new building) and the Gent de Mar Integrated Vocational Training Center, in the Raset area, specialized in studies of the maritime-fishing family, trade and marketing, and administration and management.

new sports hall

The new pavilion is one of the great demands of the city and the drafting of the project is about to be put out to tender to build it where the old third institute was located, behind the athletics track. With capacity for 2.500 people and indoor and outdoor courts in a surface area of 6.000 m2.

But the program includes other proposals to make Dénia a sportier city if possible: the lighting of the greenway, the renovation of the Madrigueres slopes, the renovation of the Rodat field facilities and the adaptation of small spaces within the city for the practice of sports in the open air.

Solution to difficult access to housing

«We are perfectly aware: access to housing is a problem, not only in Dénia, but throughout the country. We propose a real and feasible solution: we will create a Municipal Housing Management Park, with which we will obtain homes with a guaranteed quality and, above all, with prices below the market”, announced the PSPV. But how do they intend to achieve it?

The Socialists promise to promote the construction of social housing that contemplates the new General Structural Plan and the negotiations with owners and entities that have unsold unoccupied homes so that the City Council can manage them. "In this way we will give real solutions to people who really need them."

Diana's Bosc, again

It is not the first time that it appears in an electoral program, and it is a project with many years behind it and that has not yet managed to cross the Camí de Sant Joan so that the residents can begin to glimpse the greatness of that promised big lung. According to the PSPV, there are already €1.200.000 confirmed from Next Generation funds to finally make the city's great green lung a reality and transform more than 60.000 m2 of surface area, on the right-hand side of Camino de Sant Joan, into a large green space where you can enjoy nature, play sports, walk and play.

On the other side of the road, the recreation area is already being developed, which will have a picnic area and a children's play area with a zip line.

the intermodal station

The new General Structural Plan contemplates the new location of the intermodal station between the TRAM track and Torrecremada. In other words, as soon as the PGE is a reality, the construction of a new station should begin, which will make it possible to turn the page on the provisional bus station and have a new, modernized, larger and much more functional one.

The problem here is that, although Grimalt's team assumes that the PGE will be approved very soon, the truth is that there is not much reason for optimism. It is true that a few months ago there was an alleged approval of the final version in a plenary session of the City Council, so it would only have needed the approval of the Ministry to finally have PGE. However, without going any further, this week there will again be a version that will be put to the vote in the consistory during an extraordinary plenary session, which indicates that it is hitting more barriers than expected.

And as usual, abandoned and Third World areas such as Las Rotas, Montgó and Las Marinas.
These areas are also Denia, at least to pay.

  2. Dani says:

Let the promises go where they fit.
We have already seen what the traditional left PSOE Podemos does.
And the PP is an opportunist.
Pepa font is Grimalt in blue.
    So no case.
If we have to vote for someone, let's vote for Zero Cuts, at least they won't take more money from us.
If the PSOE does not understand that a Theater-Auditorium is needed, a cinema that is municipal so that we do not have to pay and that the Second Ambulatory is urgent because a city of almost 50.000 inhabitants that doubles its population cannot be with a single Health Center and we need a Bus Station and not waste time with intermodals, SO FUCK IT.
No more Grimalt, Font and company.
    Zero Cuts is the solution

  3. Juan says:

The thing about the bus station is shameful. If everything they promise is going to have the same quality, they don't need to waste money.
