Bancalet, the new regional brand created by the Dénia City Council to highlight local products

February 14 from 2024 - 12: 56

The Dénia City Council today presented the Bancalet regional brand, an initiative that aims to help distinguish the local product. The mayor attended the press conference, held at the Municipal Market Vicent Grimalt, the Councilor for Commerce María José García, the director of the Office of Innovation and Creativity Floren Terrades and the creative director of Sapristi Alfred Pavía.

"It is about the final consumer being able to distinguish the products of the land, of our region," said Grimalt. The distinctive is a logo and a series of labels that interested parties can place on their products so that the buyer can identify them.

The mayor highlighted that this is an idea that arises from the UNESCO Creative City project. "One of the bases was to put on the table that the more kilometer 0 products, the better," he added, with the aim of "giving a boost to land recovery and highlighting the work of producers."

Terrades explained that they have been working on the initiative since 2019 and it was born as a pilot project in which fifteen companies from the region participate. Marina Alta. From this, a Regulation for the use of the Bancalet brand was created, which was registered as a collective trademark. Six months ago, the Municipal Ordinance for the Regulation of Use of the Bancalet Brand was approved in the Dénia City Council.

The director of the Innovation Office explained that Bancalet is aimed at all those involved in the value chain: livestock, agriculture and fishing (primary production); retailers; distributors, processing companies and processors; artisans who create tools related to gastronomy; restaurant and hospitality businesses, and tourism companies with gastronomic services.

Terrades informs that any interested person can now request and use the brand through a procedure on the City Council website. "The requirements are to be a company with headquarters in the Marina Alta and that production is also located in the region, excluding franchises and electronic commerce that is not located in the area," he added.

In addition, a Trademark Commission has been established to rule that establishments can use it. Once granted, companies will be able to use it for three years and, after that period, an audit will be carried out to check if the company can continue to use it.

"It is about making visible what is ours and our tradition," said María José García, who highlighted the "cultural identity, sustainability and economic promotion" that the initiative highlights.

For his part, publicist Alfred Pavía has stated that the promotional campaign will be carried out in two lines: one more internal to producers and restaurateurs so that they join Bancalet and another aimed at the public to raise awareness of why it is important to choose this type of proximity products.

For this initial phase of Bancalet, 60.000 euros from the Next Generation Funds of the European Union have been invested.

Good initiative to pose in courage there in our town! Congratulations on business!

Good initiative, but they build the house through the roof.
The first and foremost thing would be to help small producers and prevent the abandonment of local fields and manufacturing.
You just have to take a walk along the famous “greenway” to see the state of our abandoned fields awaiting reclassification to sell as buildable land thanks to a NOTHING sustainable tourism boom sponsored by our City Council.
Again an initiative for a few publicist cronies and only looking at gastronomy and restaurants.

One thing is the City Council and politics, other than when everyone is united voluntarily, an idea that can be beneficial for everyone.
The easiest is to blame others

A great initiative that, if consolidated, will allow our farmers to make themselves known and be more valued by everyone, which is missing.
