Friends of the Camino de Santiago de Dénia

November 11 from 2010 - 00: 00

The Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago de Dénia-Marina Alta is a very active and enterprising entity focused on the dissemination of the Caminos de Santiago and on guiding and supporting anyone who wishes to start the Jacobean pilgrimage. Maite Ballesteros and José Lozano are the authors of "Los Caminos de Levante to Santiago", a study and research work developed with the aim of recovering the Levante Roads, true routes that already existed in the first years of the pilgrimage and even before, but that later disappeared and forgotten, as the French Royal Way gained strength.

"Los Caminos de Levante to Santiago"
is the second of four volumes that make up the collection are planning to develop the authors, which will undoubtedly open new horizons to all the lovers Jacobean routes, whose final goal Compostela. The four books of the "Experiences of a pilgrim, Camino de Santiago" collection are: book I Camino Real French; book II Levante roads to Santiago; book III North Camino Primitivo and book IV, Camino or Via de la Plata.

In the section dedicated especially to the Marina Alta, entitled "Dénia, road recovered" the authors delve into the villages from which, year after year, leave many pilgrims, including Ondara, Pego, the Vall de la Gallinera, Atzúbia, Benirrama, Benialí, Muro de Alcoy, Agres and Alfafara, to connect with routes from Valencia or Alicante. The start of the route to Santiago de Compostela which starts from Dénia and joins in Almansa with the road up from Albacete, is marked at the exit of our city by road from Ondara Dénia.

    • Joaquin Ferrández says:

It is possible to do it all the year, but we are at the end of the Autumn and the days are very short of solar light, in addition it is probable that you have rain and / or wind. You will have to wear winter clothes, raincoat, etc. You must also take into account the number of days you want to dedicate, the starting point, etc.
In Denia we can give you information in the Plaza del Convento n.1, on Wednesdays, from 7 to 8 in the afternoon.
Denia is far from Santiago, to go on foot from Denia
You would have to cross all of Spain diagonally, it would take a long time and you would have to have an excellent physical preparation. The normal thing is to move about a hundred, two or three hundred kilometers before Santiago and travel around 20 or 25 kilometers a day. There are several different routes. The best thing is that you approach the address that I have indicated and we will inform you of everything.

    • Joaquin says:
