A Nazi and Franco treasure discovered after the death of a woman in Dénia will be auctioned

November 09 from 2021 - 11: 25

After his death in July 2004, Gertrudis Sommer Ficher, a German citizen who lived her last years in Dénia, left great wealth with no hands to stop. Among them, three houses in the city stand out, 300.000 euros in the bank and 480.000 in shares. The woman had no heirs and there was no will, so once the legal term had passed, everything fell into the hands of the Generalitat Valenciana. Now, there was still a hidden treasure that had gone unnoticed.

One of the banks where he kept his money, according to El País, noticed that there was a safe in his name. They notified the General Directorate of Heritage to be able to access the interior and recover the lost assets. Once they opened the gate, they came across a large collection of Nazi and Francoist coins and medals. Swastika, Nazi insignia ...

The discovery surprised those present since nothing was known of the owner's past. Now, the truth is that there is private collections of this style in Dénia due to its past as a refuge for high-ranking Nazi officials under Franco's regime. Some facts that Óscar Aibar has now brought to the cinema with film The substitute.

Among the medals that have appeared in the box are one of the Order of the Eagle without swords of Germany, valued at 1.750 euros, and a cross of the Order of Elizabeth the Catholic of gold and enamels, between 900 and 1.200 euros. In total, the set of medals could be valued at around 3.000 euros.

However, the 31 gold coins discovered, minted in 1915 during the last period of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, have been valued at 47.500 euros.

The Generalitat Valenciana is going to organize an auction in order to sell all these objects found in the safe. Of course, as long as the decorations are not directly linked to crimes of blood. The proceeds from the auction will go to the social party and cultural patronage.
