A big heart on 4 wheels: how Dénia pilots are changing lives in the desert

16 2023 April - 09: 00

The world we live in often seems to be dominated by negative news. Wars, crime, natural disasters, and divisive politics flood the news and often leave us feeling helpless and hopeless. That's why it's so important to remember that there are good people in the world, who do good deeds every day, even if they don't get the recognition they deserve.

Gaspar Ruiz and Vicente Ros are two people who are doing exactly that. A few years ago they started a very special project called Fill the desert with drawings, and they have been carrying it out with humility and perseverance ever since. His goal is to help the most needy people in Morocco, taking advantage of his participation in the Maroc Challenge, a rally race that crosses the desert.

This year they have been joined by another team, Tronquet 71.1, made up of Juanma López and Sergio Salort. During the race, Gaspar did not compete, but he made sure to support the team and the photography and communication team. But the most important thing is that, once the stages of the race were over, the team dedicated themselves to continuing with their humanitarian aid project.

Changing lives in its wake

The project consists of providing school and teaching materials to the Tafilalet association, as well as a wheelchair and diapers of different ages that they had requested. They also collaborated with the M'Barek association, providing various materials and another wheelchair. Additionally, in Merzouga, they left sanitary and oral cleaning materials at the Luna Roja center.

But the most emotional thing of all is their commitment to little Amín, whom they met a few years ago. Amin suffered perinatal hypoxia at birth, which has reduced his motor and cognitive abilities. Since they met him, they have been dedicated to making his life a little more comfortable. In December they were informed that he needed a new chair, and they did not hesitate to do everything possible to get it. And they got it. Amín now has a new chair, which will allow him to go to school more comfortably and take long walks with his family.

From competition to solidarity

These are the things that often go unnoticed, but are just as important to those who benefit from them. Gaspar, Vicente, Juanma and Sergio are doing great social work, contributing their grain of sand to help those who need it most. His effort has not only been commendable, but has shown that solidarity and empathy are values that have not completely disappeared in our society.

And without forgetting its good results in the competitive side of the adventure. The Tronquet 71.1 team finished in a more than creditable fifteenth position in the adventure TT3 category in its first participation.

It is important to highlight the gratitude they have shown towards the CC Portal de la Marina and to all those who have supported and helped them to continue with their project. We cannot underestimate the value of these small actions, which often make a big difference in people's lives.
