There are several pests that threaten tree species in the city of Denia. To fight against this, the Parks and Gardens department has opted to combat these pests biologically and since last week has begun to treat the affected specimens with other predatory insects that kill the invaders without causing damage to the tree.
Alderman environment, Josep Crespo, Explained that "This commitment to ecological treatments is a sustainable alternative to the use of insecticides that is being carried out successfully in other cities in Spain".
The species that will be released in the Denia woodland are Adalia bipunctata, a coleoptera predator of aphids; Anthocoris nemoralis or predatory bug, the most known and effective for the natural control of the psylla; Chrysoperla carnea or lacewing, predator of aphids and other insects and Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, a coleoptera that feeds on various types of woodlice.
The treatment has been released in specimens of Cycas revoluta affected by cochineal and the next release will be made in the pittosporum, affected by the same plague.
