Too Good To Go is an app that connects users with thousands of food establishments that sell surprise packs with their daily surplus of food at a reduced price to avoid waste.

Masymas Supermarkets, of the Valencian distributor Juan Fornés Fornés SA, has already avoided the waste of more than 100 tons of food from all its establishments in the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia thanks to its alliance with Too Good To Go (www.toogoodtogo. es), the largest app that fights against food waste in the world.

The collaboration between both companies began in July 2020 with a pilot phase that was very well received and thanks to which the 120 centers that Masymas Supermarkets has in both autonomous communities are already discharging their daily food surplus through the Too Good To Go app.

Too Good To Go is a mobile app that connects users with thousands of food establishments that offer last-minute surprise packs with their daily surplus of food at reduced prices. In this way, every day the Masymas Supermarkets offer users the opportunity to save surprise packs through this app with products that have not been sold throughout the day and that are about to end their useful life in order to avoid their waste. These packs contain food worth €12 but can be purchased for only €3,99 by simply reserving it through the app and going to pick it up at the establishment at the indicated time.

To date, Masymas Supermarkets has already managed to save more than 100.000 surprise packs of food through this application, which has allowed him to avoid the waste of more than 100 tons of food in less than two years. This represents a further step in its strategy of sustainability and commitment to the planet, since thanks to all that food saved, not only has the waste of natural resources used for its production been avoided, but it has also saved the emission of more than 250.000 kilos. of CO2eq, which is equivalent to the same emissions produced by 827 planes flying from Madrid to London or the emissions from charging the battery of 44,2 million mobile phones.

For Noelia Fornés, Director of Marketing and Communication at Masymas: "This initiative reinforces our commitment to sustainability and the reduction of food waste. At Masymas we are very happy with the results and the figures show it. Many clients have given us the thank you for offering this service in all our supermarkets”.

In the words of Madalena Rugeroni, director of Too Good To Go in Spain and Portugal, "we are very happy with how this alliance with Masymas Supermarkets has been developing, its good reception and all the joint work we are doing to fight against food waste. foods. Within the objectives of the 2030 Agenda, the urgency of reducing food waste by half by the end of this decade is established due to a social and economic issue, but also due to the enormous environmental impact that it entails. To achieve this, committed companies with the will to act are needed, as is the case with Masymas Supermarkets, with whom we will continue working to continue creating a positive impact and move towards zero waste figures.”
