04 March 2013 - 00: 02

International Women's Day is celebrated on Friday around the world, and in denia.com we want to pay tribute to these women closer to their work, attitude and constant struggle, stand out in different areas of our society.

During this week we'll talk to five women who in recent times have contributed their bit to the Dianense society, among which is Jessica Romero, president of LUDAI to be recognized on Friday by the council.

Today we begin this series of interviews talking to Raquel Marí, director of the UNED in Dénia since last December.

Raquel Marí directs the Open University in Dénia.

It comes from Gandia, although their professional and student life has been linked to Dénia since 98, when he began studying Political Science and Sociology. Presently he is living in Gandia with her husband and son, five years. Raquel is also a great defender and aware of equality worldwide thanks to its Master in Political and Gender Equality. We met her at her office in the Municipal House of CultureWhere we are greeted with a smile.

Rachel, you're the first woman who holds the position of director of the UNED in Dénia. How you feel?

UNED has given me a lot, I began studying here, I was student representative, and claimed it was the UNED, I think one of the best universities in Spain in all aspects. UNED will tanning, will develop as a person because you should bring discipline to the studies is much higher than it should be conventional or traditional university. In the face crush you every day notes, classes ... here you arrive and you have your book and you have to arrange for the entire course. You have the support of the face tutorials, and makes you have a lot of discipline in all facets of your life because you have to arrange all the time around your studies. It gives a vision and impressive quality education is one of the top ranked universities worldwide.

It has given me a lot, so be director's return to the UNED what has given me. Discipline, organization, knowledge, wisdom can deal alone facing the world of work ... all this has brought me the UNED.

How do you reconcile your personal and professional life?

My husband and I reconcile work and family life. We are fifty-fifty. We take the issue of equality to raja tabla. Neither he helps me nor I help him: we share the tasks and we are always available to each other. And that has helped me a lot, in fact it has also helped me to derive my studies in the master's degree in Gender and Equality Policies. Equality is one of my goals, also at the university level.

Does that equality exist in the UNED?

In public university, as in all public institutions are obliged to respect that equality. UNED has been a pioneer in having, at national level, a lead, Elisa Pérez Vela. But it is true that in 32 years of living in Dénia, is the first time a woman runs the UNED. Yes, it's news, but I'll be satisfied the day this is not news. What I want is to be equal.

Do you think that the celebration of this day is necessary?

Yes now. Spain is one of the EU countries flag bearer in equality laws, and because of the crisis equality has been silenced. Equality is no longer news but not because we have reached is not news because we seem to be in involution, and displays a button: the last comment of Toni Cantó ... no comment. Continue killing women, are still questioning if this is true or not ... That shows that this celebration is needed, as the Day Against Gender Violence. We also have to highlight the role of women. Still remains the glass ceiling in senior positions, both public and private enterprises.

What woman is a role model for you?

My mother, no doubt. I adore her. For me it is the best person in the world. I have devotion to her. He has been working and mother. In the days when my mother married, in the years 60, his opposition was taken in Telefónica, your driving license ... she did not charge his payroll, charged his father because she could not have account number. Then she married my father, started a business, it has brought forward four children, work ... everything. For me it is a super woman
