What will change in Les Deveses with the regeneration of the coast? This is how the project in the north of Dénia is going

27 October 2023 - 15: 00

The ambitious recovery and regeneration project of the beach of Denia has been taking place in the north of Dénia for weeks. the Deveses. This project has a significant investment of 14.459.500 euros and its main objective is to restore and protect this area of the coast.

The scope of this project encompasses several key initiatives. Firstly, the aim is to achieve a minimum width of 30 meters on the beach through the contribution of 650.000 cubic meters of sand. To guarantee the stability of the beach, two new breakwaters will be built and the height of the existing breakwater will be increased, especially in the area closest to the provincial limit of Alicante.

In addition to the recovery of the beach, the project includes environmental regeneration measures. This involves the regeneration of existing dunes and the creation of new dunes where they did not previously exist. For this purpose, the planting of native species will be carried out and sand collectors known as "bardisas" will be placed. To protect the dunes, flexible fencing will be installed to delimit their perimeter.

Another important aspect of the project is the improvement of access to the beach. Existing public accesses will be rearranged as far as possible to protect the dunes and facilitate entry to the beach.

The regeneration work not only aims to recover the profile of the beach, but also to create a leisure space for citizens in harmony with the nature of the maritime-terrestrial public domain. In addition, this action will have a positive impact on the protection of numerous homes that are located on the beachfront and that suffered damage during Storm Gloria in 2020.

The works continue to progress as scheduled, with the arrival of a dredge on October 20 to carry out the addition of sand, the formation of dune ridges and the planting of native species. In addition, the improvement and organization of access to the beach is planned through the installation of wooden walkways.

€100 that at the first storm everything disappears.

  3. jot says:

It's useless, the first storm this winter will take all 14 to the trash and if not this year, next year...

  4. Rosa Marin says:

You are absolutely right, Luis Mateo. And there are scientific studies, such as those from the Polytechnic University, that prove it!

  5. Rosa M Marin says:

The regeneration comes after many years of inaction by the different administrations and neighborhood demands and suffering from the two storms of 2027 and Gloria. Welcome, if at the same time they paralyze a proposal for boundaries that make no sense after this regeneration and that in addition to the absurd and "illegal" loss of legal, non-invasive properties that were built more than a century ago many meters and meters away from the sea, are causing great suffering and psychological anguish to many neighbors!!!

I have a house on the beach of Les Deveses, a few years ago there was a sign on the road that goes from the cami vell of Dénia to the Les Marines road that said: Dénia taxes, Kenya services. Because that piece of beach has been completely forgotten by the Dénia city council, except to collect municipal taxes. Finally something is going to be done on Les Deveses beach, I'm happy with that, I hope it's not the last thing they do.

I remember that in the 80s, when the mayor of Denia was Mr. Joaquin Chornet, the renovation of the beaches was already preceded at that time; some breakwaters were built, and another long one, far from the coast to divert the currents and contain a The storms were rare. My father, who was then a tourism councilor, together with Mr. Anastasio García went to Bilbao to hire the dredge. As far as I remember, that dredge worked night and day, the beaches once again had a considerable width and everyone was happy with that work, except for the group of those called "greens" who said that this would only serve to destroy the seabed, etc etc, we already know what they are like. Years later, the dismantling of the dams was preceded, of which there are still stones in some places, and the sea currents took away all the sand...again. This is a brief history of what had already been done 40 years ago. Surely more than one will remember. All the best

The best thing is to place bets on one side or the other, and if you don't have enough, build a ring and fight, since they are very aggressive around here. Are the people of Dénia like that or is it just an isolated event? I don't know who is right, but I don't think this is a way to debate. Banana foreigner.

      • Evaristo says:

The breakwaters only serve to remove sand from one place and put it in another.
Rather, a barrier should be put inside the sea in the long run, such as coral barriers, so that the sand stays on the shore. Otherwise the sand will go elsewhere.

  7. Lluis says:

The sea always finds its place.

We will regret it when it happens to us like in Acapulco and they will say "we couldn't know"

    • Louis Matthew says:

The list on duty, with the comment on duty….
What is the place of the sea in Les Deveses???
I already told you that the place where the sea was before the regeneration was not his. It was the “place” to which he was forced to go due to human action in the area (Isbert Dam, port of Dènia and its successive extensions, etc, etc)
Don't give your opinion about what you don't know.

      • Rosa Marin says:

You are absolutely right. And there are studies from the Polytechnic University that prove it!

      • Lluis says:

That's precisely what I say, but you write with a loaded gun. When there is human action, the sea finds its place. I'm not saying that this is your place, but that you will find another because the sea is an uncontrollable force.

    • Manuel Segura says:

One more fool and he falls into the water
“La Mar” was never there. It was always a beautiful sandy area, destroyed over time by the actions of man (swamps, ports...) and now, fortunately, after many years of struggle, it is back to what it was.

      • Lluis says:

I tell him the same thing as the other

That's precisely what I say, but you write with a loaded gun. When there is human action, the sea finds its place. I'm not saying that this is your place, but that you will find another because the sea is an uncontrollable force.
