Why creaky joints during chiropractic adjustment?

January 16 from 2014 - 00: 00

It is common for our joints creak occasionally more during adjustment performed by chiropractors in their sessions but do you really know why this happens?

First of all, we must clarify that not all chiropractic adjustments make creaking joints. There are hundreds of chiropractic techniques among which the doctor of chiropractic choose among the best suited to the condition and age of each patient.

Why creaky joints?

All joints are surrounded by a synovial capsule. Within this capsule is a liquid with a certain amount of gases (CO2, N2 and O2) whose main function is to lubricate joints. If we had this liquid, the friction between the bones end up wearing them soon
time, but thanks to the synovial fluid, prevents direct contact there between them and joints can move smoothly.

By exerting a compression or extension of a joint (what happens during a chiropractic adjustment), the space between the bones of the same joint increases and therefore also increases the volume of the synovium. By increasing the volume of the capsule, an area of low pressure causes gases to pass out of the synovial fluid as bubbles is created. This process is called cavitation.

These bubbles burst and are those that produce that sound so characteristic crunching. To give you an idea is, it is similar to what happens when you open a bottle of Coca Cola thing. When you open it, the pressure inside the bottle decreases and the dissolved gases in the beverage coming out of it.

They can also participate in this sound, but to a lesser extent, ligaments and tendons around. Once bubbles have broken, they can not return to this joint to crack until after a time interval between 15 and 30 minutes as the time necessary for gases again completely dissolved in the synovial fluid. Any attempt before time needed all that will achieve is a much weaker sound or no sound directly.

Can the creaking joints cause problems such as arthritis?

In the 2009, the Ig Nobel Medicine did a study about a person, Donald L. Unger, who had been 60 years crunching the knuckles of one hand without damaging consequences. As they say, it is a case in point and is not suitable to generalize, but this result supports other more serious studies that claim that cracked his knuckles does not have long-term, no health hazard joints.

The creaking joints is pathological when it occurs with the normal movement of these and is accompanied by pain, such as in the case of people who heard round the neck as grit. This could indicate osteoarthritis or arthritis.

Why do joints creak?

So far we have been talking about a joint creak without any therapeutic purpose but when it comes to crujirla to restore proper mobility then, besides not being harmful, improves health in every way.

If it is a foot can correct posture, if it is a hand will allow us to regain strength and if it comes vertebrae then we will release the nervous system and allow the organs that supply work to 100%.
