Pirates, post-war and action! Hollywood star Dénia from 'Captain Jones' will star in a miniseries

At the beginning of the second half of the 20th century, still suffering the consequences of the war, Dénia became the filming set of a Hollywood blockbuster that changed the daily lives of the municipality's residents for weeks. The poverty and usual routine of a small coastal town in Spain was overshadowed by the fake sets, the hustle and bustle of film crews and the walks of American stars through the streets. The Dénia of Captain Jones which will now be rescued for a miniseries.

This new production seeks to recreate what was a great event in the area, the filming of one of the films with, at the time, the largest budget on the planet in a Dénia that had around 12.000 inhabitants. That clash of cultures, of the dazzling Hollywood and the gray Spain of the postwar period, and how they coexisted for a time is what those responsible seek to portray.

It will be titled Pirates to Dénia and will be developed over three episodes, where you will see how the population intervened in the production by participating as extras and even the coronation of Mia Farrow as queen of the parties.

The idea came from one of those responsible, Tirso Calero, who came across the plaque that honors that event in Baix la Mar during the holidays. Calero, who has participated in successful series such as Loving in troubled times, Ana and the seven o Remember when, will be in charge of writing the script. And the direction will be carried out by Javier Marco, a talented director who was nominated for the Goya for Best New Director in 2022.
