Pepa Sivera want to include the prevention of childhood obesity in schools

20 March 2015 - 18: 59

The Councilor for Education Pepa Sivera and the person in charge of Local Agenda 21 Vicente Chelet visited the Madrid town of Villanueva de la Cañada on March 10 in order to learn first-hand about the Childhood Obesity Prevention Program that that municipality teaches to the students of the Santiago Apóstol school. The project, which has been under way since 2007, is based on the NAOS Strategy (Ministry of Health) and the THAO-Children's Health Program.

Councilor Pepa Sivera during the aforementioned meeting showed her interest in incorporating a similar prevention program in the educational centers of Dénia. This project would address pathologies linked to overweight and lack of control in food, as well as healthy habits.

Villanueva de la Cañada, with 19.000 inhabitants, is a leader in education. Currently chairs the Spanish Healthy Cities Network and is also linked to the Spanish Nutrition Foundation.
