Mena Family Opinion: «Chaos at the end of Les Rotes»

18 July 2016 - 15: 59

The Mena family has been running the Mena Restaurant for more than 60 years and the traffic chaos that has been suffered in the area had never occurred. In recent years the number of visitors has increased, excursions to the Tore del Gerro or Cova Tallada have multiplied and the nautical companies that embark and disembark in the area have also proliferated, their clients also using the few parking spaces available.

In early July the City Council has restructured the car parks in order to facilitate the access of emergency vehicles and pedestrians. Go ahead which seems laudable intention, and we are convinced that action in this regard is necessary, but the drastic reduction of parking and the lack of effective alternatives caused many incidents and risque sanctioned or forced tourists to flee area.

This municipal action has also been coincident in time with signaling private parking Restaurant Mena, acting together with others are processed with Costas and the City Council for more than six months therefore have been making efforts before the City council had intended to do any work. Therefore, we make the following points:

1º.- The Mena Larrosa family owns 3.039m2. of land on the restaurant plot. It is not an administrative concession, since we have inherited from our grandparents of public deed since the 50 years. The boundaries of the plot range from the terrestrial public sea line in the north to the Rotas highway in the south, and from the end of the pedestrian promenade in the maritime zone in the west, to the current cetacean sighting included to the east of the plot. Incidentally, the City Council never asked for permission to install it.

Therefore there is no part of property in the public domain, although it is itself affected by Costas easement.

2º.- Due to the special nature of our parents, always willing to assist in any act that benefiaciara to Denia, this property has always been open to all residents and visitors, as never before has its delimitation and / or signaling been necessary.

But the last circumstances have meant that we have to be forced to take care of our customers, providing them with a parking space that has always been shared with everyone, at this time and in the summer makes their private use imprescidible. In the last few weekends there have been conflicts due to traffic saturation and some of our customers have been penalized for not being able to park properly, as the restaurant's terrain was occupied by vehicles of all conditions. It should be noted that the parking lot that can remain in the part of the plot enabled for sighting of cetaceans, as well as the bus stop or the garbage area, is still open, free and public.

3º.- In our view, the action taken by the city would be fine if alternatives parking and access were taken. But although it appeared the initial intention has not been well and has gone on, we believe precipitously. Where is the public car park to access a place so visited? It seems that I said that signing contracts to fill seats 20 was not. Where is the improvement in public transport? Where is the image of tourist city? If you can not get to go to the beaches, to taste our gastronomy, to visit tourist areas, or enjoy a boating excursion, How can we explain it? If above can punish you with 200 €.

It is essential to enable a large car park near this area. Facilitate a reinforced public transport in summer. Facilitate access in other less saturated spaces to carry out nautical activities.

Ultimately we believe you should reconsider and act urgently in this regard, because right now what we have is a mess. To ensure access for emergency vehicles you do not need to disappear in the area around the car park, although it was precarious. You can not say that 80 spaces are created when ralidad cancel more than 150. Therefore we are ready to support the City retaking negotiations with owners nearby, or with other companies. Our family has always been and will be willing to cooperate for the sake of Denia, the memory of our father supports us.
