Mena Family Opinion: «Chaos at the end of Les Rotes»

18 July 2016 - 15: 59

The Mena family has been at the forefront of restaurant Mena more than 60 years and the traffic chaos that has been suffered in the area had never occurred. In recent years the number of visitors has increased, excursions to the Tore del Gerro or to the Cova Tallada and the nautical companies that embark and disembark in the area have also proliferated, their clients also using the few parking spaces available.

Parking at the end of Les Rotes

In early July the City Council has restructured the car parks in order to facilitate the access of emergency vehicles and pedestrians. Go ahead which seems laudable intention, and we are convinced that action in this regard is necessary, but the drastic reduction of parking and the lack of effective alternatives caused many incidents and risque sanctioned or forced tourists to flee area.

This municipal action has also been coincident in time with signaling private parking Restaurant Mena, acting together with others are processed with Costas and the City Council for more than six months therefore have been making efforts before the City council had intended to do any work. Therefore, we make the following points:

1º.- The Mena Larrosa family owns 3.039m2. of land on the restaurant plot. It is not an administrative concession, since we have inherited a public deed from our grandparents since the 50s. The boundaries of the plot range from the public land maritime line to the north to the highway from the Routes to the south, and from the end of the pedestrian promenade of the maritime zone to the west, up to the current whale watching included located east of the plot. Incidentally, the City Council never asked permission for its installation.

Therefore there is no part of property in the public domain, although it is itself affected by Costas easement.

Parking problems at the end of Les Rotes

2º.- Due to the special nature of our parents, always willing to assist in any act that benefiaciara to Denia, this property has always been open to all residents and visitors, as never before has its delimitation and / or signaling been necessary.

But the last circumstances have meant that we have to be forced to take care of our customers, providing them with a parking space that has always been shared with everyone, at this time and in the summer makes their private use imprescidible. In the last few weekends there have been conflicts due to traffic saturation and some of our customers have been penalized for not being able to park properly, as the restaurant's terrain was occupied by vehicles of all conditions. It should be noted that the parking lot that can remain in the part of the plot enabled for sighting of cetaceans, as well as the bus stop or the garbage area, is still open, free and public.

3º.- In our opinion, the action carried out by the City Council would be very good if there were alternatives for parking and access. But although it seemed the initial intention, it has not turned out that way and we have moved forward, we believe that in a hasty manner. Where is the public parking to access such a visited place? It seems that the one that was said agreed to occupy 20 places was not. Where is the improvement in public transport? Where is the tourist city image? If you can't get there to go to the coves, to try our gastronomy, to visit the tourist areas, or to enjoy a nautical excursion, how can we explain it? If on top of that they can sanction you with €200.

It is essential to enable a large car park near this area. Facilitate a reinforced public transport in summer. Facilitate access in other less saturated spaces to carry out nautical activities.

Ultimately we believe you should reconsider and act urgently in this regard, because right now what we have is a mess. To ensure access for emergency vehicles you do not need to disappear in the area around the car park, although it was precarious. You can not say that 80 spaces are created when ralidad cancel more than 150. Therefore we are ready to support the City retaking negotiations with owners nearby, or with other companies. Our family has always been and will be willing to cooperate for the sake of Denia, the memory of our father supports us.

This situation was coming and it came. In fact, we could not have lunch at the restaurant days ago unable to park your vehicle in any place in the area, having to turn to go elsewhere.

Complicated matter. City Council to repress citizens and freirle fines as the only alternative. narrow area, many visits and use of leisure businesses abusive and invasive. Customers should obligatorily bus access to enhance vehicle rotation. Residents and restaurants injured. Repressor council without creative solutions or alternatives.

Traffic chaos in Denia is becoming chaotic. I think City should enable areas or solar provisionally as public parking. As recently been made, but more areas. Now the chaos is caused by the amount of cars looking for parking without success. And put areas of payment is not prudent. Gentlemen councilors provide solutions that have been voted for that.

100% agree. This is one of my favorite corners of my town. Last year I watched with amazement and shame as fines were prescribed for countless cars parked along the road between Mena restaurant and Ca Nano. What a shame! A rude and grumpy local municipal represented our municipality in the noble task of issuing fines and directing the tow truck. While the tourists contemplated the scene in amazement, as neither signs nor road markings warned of the parking ban. Keep it up, please, Denia for those from Denia, we don't want people from outside to come; let them go; that they take a terrible memory and that they do not come back ... Although on second thought ... If they do not come ... WE WILL HAVE TO GO TOO, including the municipal and the tow truck! Something that more than one needs ... Going out, traveling, living in another place, is always positive because it helps you to mature and to realize that more than one would have to take early retirement due to their small-town mentality.
