Eleven mothers and fathers from Dénia learn to face the challenges of parenting with the UPCCA

02 2024 April - 11: 09

The Addiction Prevention Department of the Dénia City Council, through the UPCCA (Community Prevention Unit for Addictive Behaviors), has carried out a series of new courses aimed at the prevention of mothers and fathers in the family environment. These courses, held over the past few months, respond to the identified need to continue addressing certain topics in a more in-depth manner, given their relevance to the educational role of parents.

A total of eleven mothers and fathers participated in the sessions held on Wednesday, February 28, March 13 and 27. The UPCCA chose to organize sessions in small groups in order to facilitate more direct and personalized work with families. The main objective of the educational group was to accompany families in learning strategies to face the challenges that arise during the upbringing of their sons and daughters, both in childhood and adolescence.

During the sessions, the group was nourished by the needs and life experiences proposed by the families themselves, who raised the topics to work on. The UPCCA technical staff prepared the relevant material and activities. Among the topics addressed, the following stand out: rules and limits in the family, family communication, parenting styles focused on the exercise of authority from respect and affection, parenting skills and strategies, and the prevention of abuse of information and technology technologies. communication (ICT).

The development of the sessions was characterized by being dynamic and participatory, providing enough space for families to express their concerns and share their personal experiences. This allowed us to create an environment of trust, respect, expression and listening, thus enriching the training experience.

The families who attended these sessions showed great satisfaction with the development of the training, highlighting that the experience was very enriching. They stated that they had internalized a series of positive experiences, such as empowerment in their role as father/mother, confidence in their educational work, useful tools to face various situations and, above all, the shared experience with other people in the group, by sharing testimonies and appreciate that the difficulties are shared by other families, feeling supported in raising their sons and daughters.

The UPCCA has valued this experience very positively, considering it the beginning of future similar educational groups.
