Less than 400 residents of Dénia have requested the card to make use of the new organic containers

03 2023 April - 14: 18

The door-to-door garbage collection service began on March 20; Along with this initiative was the installation of containers to deposit organic matter. With this installation of new containers, that of this material is added; it remains closed with a digital system for which a card is required, which can be collected at the citizen service office of the concessionaire company (avenida Marquesado, 5) and in the mobile tents that will be installed at different points to explain the operation of the initiative, as explained by the Councilor for Ecological Transition, Maite Pérez Conejero. The mayor encourages citizens to join the 379 people who have requested their card to use the organic container.

The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, has highlighted the importance of installing the first battery of containers and the vehicles adapted for collection with the new system. Grimalt has affirmed that this step "will mark a before and after in everything that represents urban cleaning and that of the suburbs in Rotes, Montgó, Las Marinas, Jesús Pobre and La Xara".

Both members of the Corporation have highlighted the differences between these containers and the previous ones; Grimalt has pointed to the benefit of not having to lift their covers, while Pérez Conejero highlights their larger size, their accessibility and the material they are made of, "an iron with which they will not move and are more resistant". . In the same way, both have apologized for the delay in its installation.

Door to door

On the other hand, data from the 'Porta a porta' campaign initially promoted in the neighborhoods of Baix la Mar and Roques and in Jesús Pobre are already known. In the neighborhoods, 170 houses have been added, while in the EATIM of Jesús Pobre, the houses adhered to the collection program have so far been 238; the entire participating neighborhood has been given special buckets and bags.

In addition, the councilor has commented that composters will be distributed to citizens who live in the countryside and wish to "make their own organic matter and not have to use the containers."

Out of curiosity, the council can make the following calculation:
    Price of the containers/ 379 neighbors= cost in €
"Goodism" is very expensive and then nobody takes responsibility.
    The money is from taxes

    • Pau (FR) says:

The European Union has capped the implementation of the organic fraction in January 2024, so whoever uses that service, the containers have to be set the same

  2. Protection says:

In my opinion, this is a blunder on the part of the council. It does not facilitate anything and also, people are not about to complicate their lives. Throwing away the rubbish in Denia has become complicated and what they are going to get is more rubbish around the containers. In addition, the cubes that they have distributed do not contribute to the aesthetics of the streets, quite the contrary. They remain on the street until mid-morning. Didn't the City Council have other more important things to improve Denia and spend our money?

    • Isabel says:

      Totally agree.

    • Pau (FR) says:

The organic fraction is very sensitive, any residue that is not organic spoils the entire batch. The card or key system, which by the way is used in 95% of populations with organic, is to make sure that only interested people will use it. Remember that the existence of the container does not obligate its use.

Regarding the "Porta a Porta", better small buckets than leaving the garbage bag on the street, right?

  3. Omniway says:

The truth is that this gives the impression that money has been spent on something that is not practical.
If throwing garbage is more uncomfortable and complicated, what will people do?
If by chance you bring organic waste and when you get to the container you don't have a card, what do people do? Do they take the rubbish home again? Well no. He leaves it in the other container or on the ground.
The truth is, I don't think this system will be successful because it doesn't make the service easier, but rather complicates it.
    Good luck with the invention!

    – The mayor encourages citizens to join the 379 people who have requested their card to use the organic container.

It is what the political campaign has, that then the fiascos arise.

    – Grimalt has pointed to the benefit of not having to lift their lids,

Grimalt should see, just hours after the bins are installed, that due to the benefit of not having to lift the lids of the bins, the rubbish that does not fit through the hole in the bin accumulates around the bins giving an image of dunghill, neglect and abandonment.

    – “an iron with which they will not move and are more resistant”

An iron that will end up corroded over time, but the new containers are very fashionable, especially for visitors; since the old containers are not valid to throw the garbage if they are not made of iron, and fashion.

    • Graham gairn says:

Maybe the council should pay a visit to La Xara and see the new steel containers that were installed over one year ago and have been sealed ever since. What a waste of money!
