The businessmen warn of the paralyzing of the sector of tourist rentals with the new Law of Tourism

Since the new Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality Law of the Valencian Community came into effect three months ago, the rental sector of tourist homes has registered a notable decrease in the registration of new tourist homes in the registry.

From the association of companies of tourist rentals of the province of Alicante (AEA), its president, Mariano Espinosa, denounced in the meeting of board of directors of CEDMA held on Thursday, that the new law is causing serious damage to the sector when what was intended was the regulation of the activity.

According to the president of CEDMA, Sonja Dietz, the law has been approved without having previously agreed, or subsequently informed, the consistories of its decisive role in the registration of the properties in the registry. Dietz explained that, given that specific requirements have not been set, each municipality has to establish its own and decide which ones should have the houses that can be used for tourist accommodation.

According to businessmen, it is currently impossible to register new tourist homes in the registry, whether companies or individuals wish to do so. In this sense, Mariano Espinosa has advanced that CEDMA and the AEA intend to meet with Colomer and with representatives of the tourist consistories of the Marina Alta to transfer the concern of tourist accommodation companies and analyze the situation together.

CEDMA believes that the Tourism Law is a strong setback after the sector achieved a great achievement as has been the establishment of the conditions for legalization and total transparency in tourist rentals, with the registration of housing and inspection of activity.

The president of the employers does not see it clearly, and predicts that "We are going to return to the past because without the compatibility certificates you cannot legally register the homes, which means that there will be those who are dedicated to renting out of the law again. This will mean a lack of control of the market and will lead not only to the collapse of the companies of the sector, but also fiscal damages to the society as a whole. And, if so, the tourist model, the main economic support of the coastal towns, will end ".
