The authorities find indications about the origin of the brown stain in the port of Dénia

May 03 from 2023 - 09: 57

The Environmental Unit of the Dénia Local Police and the team of scientists from the Montgó Scientific Station, which belongs to the University of Alicante, have already started to investigate the brown stain that invaded a large part of the interior dock in the area of the Raset of the port of Dénia last Monday.

After the preliminary investigation, the agents found indications that suggest that the stain could have been caused by a spillage of water into the public network's storm drainage system. To confirm their suspicions, water samples were taken at the same point in the port where the rain collectors discharge and in a work that could be draining water from their plot due to the increase in the water table after the rainy episode early on Sunday. to Monday.

To carry out this work, members of the Montgó Scientific Station collaborated, who used a multiparameter probe that, once the data has been analysed, will determine the origin of the spill.

Once the analysis and investigation has been completed, the Department of the Environment of the Dénia City Council will be informed so that it can carry out the appropriate administrative actions.

It should be noted that this action is part of the collaboration in environmental matters between the Dénia Town Hall, through its Local Police, and the University of Alicante, through the Montgó Scientific Station, on which it has been working for some time. The importance of preserving the environment is a priority for both institutions, which is why they will continue working together to guarantee the protection of the environment and the quality of life of citizens.

It is not the first time, I have seen this several times and I took a photo. It seemed curious to me that no one cared about the dirt in this port area, but after so many years witnessing fuel oil plastic spills today someone finally cared about the problem.
