The first great mountain test of La Vuelta 2023 will be between Dénia and Xorret de Catí

August 02 from 2023 - 13: 01

The Cycling Tour of Spain has chosen the province of Alicante to star in one of the most special, intense and spectacular stages of this 2023. The president of the Diputación, Toni Pérez, presented yesterday, along with the director of the organizing company of the Unipublic sporting event , Javier Guillén, all the details of the sports day that will take place on Saturday, September 2 between Dénia and Xorret de Catí, combining two of the main tourist attractions of the Costa Blanca, the sea and the mountains.

The event was also attended by the director of the Costa Blanca Tourism Board, José Mancebo, the deputy mayor of Dénia, Rafa Carrió, the mayor of Castalla, Jesús López, as well as provincial deputies and mayors.

The Cervantes de Dénia esplanade will be the starting point of this 165-kilometre stage that will culminate in one of the most emblematic enclaves of the province, the Xorret de Catí hill, in Castalla, a demanding mountain pass that has become a classic of the Spanish round due to the beauty of its surroundings and the hardness of its ascent, with ramps that exceed 20% unevenness in some sections.

As reported by the Provincial Council of Alicante, Javier Guillén explained that "in this edition, which we have called the one of the colossi because Andorra, the Tourmalet or the Angliru will be there, it was mandatory to include the province of Alicante because it is one of the most mountains of Spain, but also for being one of the destinations where most cycling is practised".

Els Poblets, Pego, Tollos, Fageca, Quatretondeta, Gorga, Benilloba, Benifallim, La Torre de les Maçanes, Ibi and Onil are other municipalities in Alicante through which this event will take place, which also includes three second category ports -the Alto de la Vall d'Ebo, the Port of Benifallim and La Carrasqueta- and one of the third -Tollos-.

In this sense, the president of the Provincial Council highlighted the "solidarity and generous look associated with this eighth stage, which will visit some of the towns that last summer were devastated by the dramatic fire declared in the Vall d'Ebo area and in that of the Vall de Seta. A very nice gesture that will help feed the soul of these peoples so affected. In addition, Pérez wanted to thank the work of each and every one of the municipalities through which the race will run, "for their effort and involvement in this project, especially those of Dénia and Castalla, the starting and finishing point of this section" .

This 78th edition of La Vuelta will have the presence of the best figures in this discipline, such as the current champion, Remco Evenepoel, the winner of the Giro d'Italia 2023, Primoz Roglic, or the recent winner of the Tour, Jonas Vingegaard, and its media impact will reach more than 190 countries around the world.

Hello, whether Grimalt is in the photo or not, that doesn't matter. What really matters is that the name of Denia appears in a highly renowned sporting event such as the Cycling Tour, not for publicity, since Denia does not need it, (you just have to see its history since millennia) but for being there, let the name of Denia sound.

    gibt is einen genauen Streckenplan?

Grimalt is on vacation…. Like the rest of the year.
But Carrió has his command to appear in the photo.
