The Adecco Foundation awards Baleària for its training and job creation project for Moroccan students

  • The shipping company's project 'Professional training in the field of maritime passenger transport' has been recognized as the best initiative in labor inclusion in the VI Diversity and Inclusion Awards of this social entity.

Baleària is honored with the recognition of excellence in "Labor inclusion" in the sixth edition of the Diversity and Inclusion Awards, granted by the Adecco Foundation and the Sustainability Excellence Club. These prestigious non-profit organizations have highlighted the positive impact of the shipping company in the generation of employment and labor inclusion through its outstanding project "Professional training in the field of maritime passenger transport".

The award-winning initiative consists of a training project and employability designed for vocational training students in Morocco, in collaboration with various Spanish entities and the Moroccan government. This successful public-private alliance, started in 2018, has had as its main objective to strengthen the employability and labor integration of a group of students from various locations, such as Tangier, Tetouan, Rabat, Casablanca and Fez, in occupations related to services on board ships and maritime passenger transport.

Throughout five editions and with the participation of 100 students, this project has allowed the participants to acquire the necessary skills to work in shipping companies. Baleària it has been integrated into the entire training process to ensure constant consistency with the demands of the labor market. Thanks to these training courses, young people have improved their employability, expanding their integration opportunities and providing them with new employment possibilities, especially those young people in exclusion risk of the labor market. During the training program, the participants have delved into maritime security issues and have received specific preparation to perform functions in areas such as reception, passenger service and kitchen. In addition, all of them have completed a month of internships on board one of the ships of Baleària on the maritime routes operated by the company.

The success of this project has been possible thanks to the collaboration of prominent institutions such as the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Tourism and Transport, and the Office of Vocational Training and Work Promotion. (OFPPT) of Morocco.

With this initiative, Baleària has reaffirmed its social commitment to Morocco, a country in which it has operated since 2003 with various routes connecting the south of Spain and France with the ports of Tanger Med and Nador. On these routes, the shipping company is committed to having local staff both in operations on land and in the fleet. In addition, in line with its business policy of responsibility and commitment to the socioeconomic development of the regions and the well-being of citizens, Baleària It has contributed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in areas such as job creation (SDG 8), the reduction of inequalities (SDG 10) and the promotion of alliances to achieve objectives (SDG 17). On the other hand, the Baleària Foundation He has spent years implementing various social and humanitarian programs in the north of the Moroccan country.

During the ceremony held at the Circle of Fine Arts of Madrid, the Adecco Foundation and the Sustainability Excellence Club have also recognized the outstanding initiatives of companies such as Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Grünenthal Pharma, Redeia and Abanca Corporación Bancaria.
