The Dénia City Council, in collaboration with the Alicante Transfusion Center, has organized a new edition of the Blood Donation Marathon in Dénia, the fifteenth to be held in the city. The marathon will take place on Wednesday, September 27 at the Social Center (calle Calderón, 4), from 09:45 a.m. to 13:30 p.m. and from 16:45 p.m. to 20:30 p.m.
According to data published yesterday by the Transfusion Center of the Valencian Community, daily blood consumption in Valencian hospitals requires the collaboration of 650 donors every day. For this reason, the Dénia marathon seeks to increase the number of donations from previous editions and contribute to covering these needs.
The Councilor for Public Health, Rafa Carrió, has highlighted the importance of being supportive to keep hospital reserves covered. "Every few seconds, someone in the world needs blood and it is in our hands to give life," she added.
The only conditions to be able to donate are to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos, be in good health and not have donated blood in the eight weeks prior to the collection date. It is recommended not to go on an empty stomach.
As a call to participation, a billboard has been designed that represents the need to advance and collaborate massively and collectively for the good of our society.
Local companies and associations collaborate in the initiative by offering gifts to people who come to donate on the 27th and spreading the call so that it reaches the largest number of people. The collaborators of this fifteenth edition of the Dénia Blood Donation Marathon are: Red Cross, Avantcem (Dénia.com, Xàbia.com and LaMarinaAlta.com), AEHTMA, Dénia FM, Baleària, CEDMA, Celler Les Freses de Jesús Pobre, Mercat de Dénia, optical Romany, Appliances Pineda and Canfali Marina Alta.
