A blow to drug trafficking in Dénia: the Civil Guard arrests a man who was preparing to ship cocaine to Mallorca

February 16 from 2024 - 09: 42

The Civil Guard of Alicante has arrested a man, a resident of Manacor, in the port of Dénia, as the alleged perpetrator of a drug trafficking crime. More than five kilograms of cocaine, 650 euros and the vehicle used have been seized. The agents continue with the investigations to locate the origin of the substances.

The actions were carried out on January 29 by a patrol from the Fiscal and Borders Detachment of the Dénia Civil Guard who were carrying out an investigation and fiscal protection service for the boardings and disembarkations of the ferries that arrive at the port of this town.

During the inspection of one of the vehicles, the agents detected certain suspicious details that led them to deepen their review. It was then that they found a hidden compartment under the co-pilot's seat, which contained rock wool, and beneath it, a steel plate. After removing the iron, they discovered five packages wrapped in transparent tape.

When opening the packages, which were vacuum packed and impregnated with odor to avoid detection, the Civil Guard found a total of 5.632 grams of cocaine.

The driver of the vehicle, a 44-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and charged with a crime against public health for drug trafficking. It was verified that the vehicle had been recently acquired by the detainee.

The detainee, who had no record of similar events, has been placed at the disposal of the Investigative Court No. 3 of Dénia, who has ordered his entry into provisional prison without bail. Both the drugs found and the 650 euros divided into 50-euro bills also found, along with the vehicle used, have been seized and brought to justice.

Thanks to the actions of the Dénia Civil Guard agents, it has been possible to prevent the consumption of the drug that would have ended up distributed throughout the island of Mallorca.

The Civil Guard does not conclude these actions, since the origin of the seized substance is being investigated.
