Weekend of contrasts for the DBC: from female resistance to male resilience

November 20 from 2023 - 11: 11

Last weekend was one of mixed emotions for the senior teams of the Dénia Básquet Club, with the women's team facing the undefeated leader CDSC Godella and the men's team playing a tight match against Pedreguer.

In the women's match, DBC suffered a defeat against CDSC Godella, leader of the group and favorite to win the Preferred Championship at the end of the season. The DBC players had initial difficulties in the attack and struggled to contain Godella's success in outside shooting and the speed of play. At halftime, the score reflected a considerable deficit of 32-12. However, in the second half of the match, the DBC women's team showed a notable improvement in their game, being more effective in attack and putting up firmer resistance in defense. Although they were not able to reduce the difference on the scoreboard, they emerged stronger from this test against a higher level rival.

In the men's match, DBC achieved its second victory of the season by defeating Pedreguer with a final score of 68-62. Despite reaching the seventh day with a streak of unfavorable results and play, the DBC men's team showed a renewed performance. During the first half of the game, they exhibited greater consistency in attack and effective protection of their basket, achieving a 20-point lead at halftime. However, in the second half, Pedreguer reduced the difference by taking advantage of the gaps in the DBC defense and the loss of confidence in the attack. Although Pedreguer threatened a comeback, DBC managed to hold firm in critical moments and secured the victory.

The Preferential league is extremely competitive, with three teams competing for the top positions and the rest separated by a victory against each other. The importance of positive results, such as this week's men's victory, stands out in such a tight context.
