Successful participation in the II Fair Acquired Brain Injury

After the success and the large crowds of the previous edition, the Hospital La Pedrera held at the premises of the Social Center Dénia its second Fair Acquired Brain Injury.

The aim of the study was to raise awareness of this pathology, currently the leading cause of disability in adults, as well as to raise awareness among the population about the importance of prevention and control of vascular risk factors.

Fair Brain Injury in Dénia

Acquired or Overdue Brain Damage is an expression that refers to a group of diseases and injuries that affect the central nervous system, traumatic brain injuries and, to a lesser extent, tumors or infections.

The importance of Acquired Brain Injury resulting from injuries of diverse causal origin lies in the aftermath of producing physical and / or psychological, in many cases long term.

At this fair were held during the morning activities of promotion and health prevention, informative lectures and workshops on different therapies in Brain Injury.

Hospital La Pedrera professionals conducted tests of cardiovascular and cerebral (voltage taps, digital blood glucose, weight and height measurement and establishment of the Body Mass Index -IMC-, health risk calculation
vascular, etc.). Likewise, cognitive tests were performed and activity was shown in speech therapy and occupational therapy that takes place in the health center.

The Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN), the Traffic Accident Victims Unit (UVAT), the recently created Cerebrum Association - participated in the information stands of this II Fair. Marina Alta, Acquired Brain Injury patients and family members, the Azca Neural Neurorehabilitation clinic, and the Dénia City Council.

The Acquired Brain Injury Unit of La Pedrera Hospital in Dénia has treated a total of 377 patients since it was put into operation at the beginning of 2012. It is noteworthy that from January to October of this year there was 129 new admissions for Acquired Brain Injury, a figure that exceeds the 104 hospitalized patients throughout the 2013 exercise.
