The "vandalism" leaves Dénia without Meridian 0º of Greenwich

November 09 from 2020 - 09: 28

In March 2018, the Dénia City Council placed and paid for, after the proposal of the Marina Alta Astronomical Association, a sign indicating the exact point where the Meridian 0º of Greenwich passed. This was almost at kilometer 10 of Les Marines, in Les Deveses.

Obviously, the place to place the sign was chosen since it is the only strip of Diane crossed by the Meridian 0º. As has been done in infinite cities around the planet where it passes, a 2x1 meter metal sign was placed on two columns embedded in the asphalt, on one side of the road in an already urbanized area, without hindering the traffic or remove parking area.

Well, since mid-October this signal disappeared without a trace. An act that the Marina Alta Astronomical Association tries to "vandal"As well as assuring that it is nonsense that someone has taken possession of that poster to, surely, place it in their garden since the only point through which the Meridian passes is the one indicated above.

Likewise, they doubt that it is because it caused inconvenience to a neighbor since there is no new construction in the place, but they remain the same as the day of their placement.

The act has been premeditated and not at all improvised, according to the association, since it requires a radial to cut the pillars and a vehicle to transport the bulky poster.

After this robbery, they wonder if it would not have been a better idea to create the signage using a concrete and brick work or with a concrete monument, which would prevent the theft.

"Let's hope that the competent authorities decide to raise such an interesting sign again for everyone, because citizens and outsiders liked to see the geographical line of origin of our planet. The place on Earth where you change from east to west. Although perhaps you have to rethink something much more solid ... ", they communicate from the Marina Alta Astronomical Association.
