The San Carlos Hospital of the HLA Group uses the latest technology to study the footprint

02 March 2022 - 12: 30
  • Hospital San Carlos Office It has a revolutionary pressure platform for the analysis of the plantar footprint.
  • The study of the foot is global and allows the creation of personalized insoles for the treatment of different pathologies.

In the specialty of podiatry, the Hospital San Carlos de Denia of the HLA Group uses a revolutionary pressure platform that allows an easy, fast and precise analysis of the plantar footprint thanks to its state-of-the-art sensors for the design and development of plantar supports and thus correct or compensate various pathologies.

The platform has a self-calibration system, this means, according to the specialist Eva Pérez, "that it does not need any type of recalibration during the useful life of the platform".

Through a system called Visual Display, it allows users to interpret, modify and print plantar pressure tests in a simple and intuitive way, thanks to immediate and direct access to the data that most interest them.

Eva Pérez, a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of the different alterations and diseases that affect the foot, explains that the platform can carry out static, dynamic and postural studies.

“During the study, the points of maximum pressure on the feet, support surface, deviations in pronation and supination, distribution of the center of gravity, as well as oscillations and tracing made by the body to detect postural alterations are analyzed. Through this information, we can corroborate other pathologies, such as: spinal deviation, hip imbalance, limb discrepancy or some local condition that forces one to carry more weight on one foot”, assures the San Carlos hospital professional.

“The feet of the same person behave differently from each other, therefore, the professional study can detect the need to apply different and contrary treatments to each foot, for which insoles are designed adjusted to the particularities of each patient. In contrast, the use of standard insoles, which do not adapt to our morphology and needs, can worsen the original problem and cause new injuries”, says the podiatrist.

The specialist Eva Pérez warns that her body offers us warning signs when we should seek the help of a professional:

  • Discomfort in the feet, knees, hips or back when walking or running.
  • Recurring injuries when playing sports.
  • Present a foot with a lot or little arch.
  • Walking with your knees too close together or too far apart.
  • Wear shoes unevenly.
  • Diabetic patients or those with cardiovascular disorders are more susceptible to ulcers.

These symptoms, both in children and adults, may be indicating the need to use insoles to correct or compensate for numerous pathologies such as flat feet, high arches, valgus or varus; heel pain, metatarsalgia, plantar fasciitis or heel spur; compensate for dysmetries (difference in the length of the legs).

"The diagnosis of the footprint is a complex job that requires specific and in-depth knowledge for the good of the health of our feet, the basis of the well-being of the rest of our body", concludes the professional from the San Carlos hospital of the HLA group.
