January 25 from 2019 - 00: 45

The Department of Health of Dénia has adhered to the "Walk Project", an Integral Plan of Prevention and Management of the Diabetic Foot, whose objective is to control, support and empower the diabetic patient in his self-care. Walk, in addition, is transversal because not only an approach is made from Primary Care, but also involves specialists in Endocrinology and Carciovascular Surgery.

The "Proyecto Camina", which has started to fly at the end of 2018, will be implemented along 2019 in all health centers of the Marina Alta. The strategy covers from the screening, the risk classification or the treatment and prevention measures of the diabetic foot. Health professionals insist on the importance of this last point, so the role of Nursing in Primary Care is fundamental.

Project objectives

One of the main objectives of the plan is to avoid any type of microvascular or macrovascular injury in the patient's foot so as not to reach the necrotic finger and, therefore, to situations of possible amputations. For this it is necessary to offer techniques and tools to the patient for his care, with special incidence in the feeding and continuous revision of his feet.

The program also addresses a strict and complete schedule of medical check-ups - capillary glucose, blood pressure - with special emphasis on the periodic measurement of glycated hemoglobin.
