The Dénia Health Department adheres to the "Camina Project"

January 25 from 2019 - 00: 45

The Department of Health of Dénia has adhered to the "Walk Project", an Integral Plan of Prevention and Management of the Diabetic Foot, whose objective is to control, support and empower the diabetic patient in his self-care. Walk, in addition, is transversal because not only an approach is made from Primary Care, but also involves specialists in Endocrinology and Carciovascular Surgery.

The "Camina Project", which began to be piloted at the end of 2018, will be implemented throughout 2019 in all health centers in the Marina Alta. The strategy ranges from screening, risk classification or treatment and prevention measures for diabetic foot. Health professionals insist on the importance of this last point, so the role of Nursing in Primary Care is essential.

Project objectives

One of the main objectives of the plan is to avoid any type of microvascular or macrovascular injury in the patient's foot so as not to reach the necrotic finger and, therefore, to situations of possible amputations. For this it is necessary to offer techniques and tools to the patient for his care, with special incidence in the feeding and continuous revision of his feet.

The program also addresses a strict and complete schedule of medical check-ups - capillary glucose, blood pressure - with special emphasis on the periodic measurement of glycated hemoglobin.
