The Department of Health of Dénia -DSD- has presented today, Primary Care Day, an ambitious improvement plan in the health centers and clinics of the Marina Alta. The Plan that, under the slogan of Primary, first, has been made public this morning, at the Gata de Gorgos Health Center, by the Managing Director of the DSD, Dr. Javier Palau.
Dr. Palau stressed that «it is an ambitious and tangible project, since it has a budget. With it we have focused on Primary Care, which is the basis of health care and contemplates improvements in terms of infrastructure, Human Resources, Training and indicators of activity and accessibility ».
Dr. Palau has offered details of the new health center in Dénia, which will have an approximate area of 1.500 square meters, according to the Functional Plan, which has already been presented to the Department of Public Health and Health. The new assistance point will centralize all the emergencies of the residents in Dénia; in addition to covering part of the population's Family and Community Medicine and Pediatric consultations.
In terms of infrastructure, it is also worth noting, underlines the Manager of the Dénia Health Department, «unlike other Valencian health departments, that this Easter we have once again provided assistance in the Calp and Xàbia, In the beaches of La Fossa and El Arenal, respectively, with the aim of reinforcing the care pressure generated by the floating population. In addition, in recent months, we have also worked on improving infrastructure and signage in the basic health areas of Dénia, Calp, Pedreguer, Ondara and Benissa.
The new Primary Plan also provides for reinforcement in terms of Human Resources, which has already begun with the hiring of 5 warders to cover 24-hour shifts at the Gata de Gorgos and Pedreguer Health Centers. To these incorporations, Palau points out, others will be added in different professional categories, with the aim of improving the quality of care, the accessibility of patients to the public health system and adjusting the patient-professional ratio.
Another of the goals set by Primary, first it is to extend the work of UME –Medical-Nurse Unit- to all the vacancies of all the basic health areas; as well as the Complex Chronic Patient Plan, which is already being piloted in the health centers of Ondara and Pedreguer. It is a care circuit that encompasses the care of the chronic patient in any context: from a situation of stability to a possible exacerbation and its corresponding hospitalization.
Primary Care in the Marina Alta in figures
During the past year, the Family and Community Medicine Units of the Marina Alta -Medicine and Nursing- carried out almost one million consultations in the 11 basic health areas that make up the Dénia Health Department. On the other hand, Continuing Care consultations were more than 120.000 and Pediatrics 92.000.
