The center of Dénia that was promised and the one that exists: the great shortcomings of the Glorieta almost a year and a million euros later

16 September 2023 - 09: 00

At the end of 2021, the project that had been approved for the transformation of the center of Dénia was made public for the first time. The City Council shared a video in which you could see an idyllic pedestrian plaza hugging a Glorieta del País Valencià that remained as we knew it. It was a greener place, with more trees, rest areas and bike racks. More faithful to the original idea of Glorieta, approved in 1956, which emphasized that it had to be an enjoyable area for neighbors and, especially, children. But once it is opened, the deadline for execution of the works has long been exceeded, there are too many loose ends.

The project was initially valued at close to one million euros and the work execution period was nine months. Having started work on October 3, 2022, it should have been completed in July. But until this week the Glorieta has not been reopened to pedestrian traffic. Now, once the machinery, material and construction equipment have been removed, what we find is a place with still work ahead.

Differences from what was going to be to what it finally is

If we pay attention to the images that accompanied the announcement of the project, we find an endless number of changes that have been made and that cause a great dissonance between the images of the announcement and the final result. The first big difference is found on the ground. It was planned that it would all be made of red brick in accordance with the aesthetics of the Glorieta, but this has only been respected at the entrances. Furthermore, in some sections the joints have yet to be sealed. The ground is now not red, but grey. Although taking into account the time required to lay those bricks, it was better to have opted for the current large tiles.

On the other hand, as this newspaper already announced, there are not as many trees as expected. In the original design there was more space for them, but the City Council decided to dispense with some to ensure free areas in order to be used in different events, either to place a Fallas monument or a stage.

On the other hand, many more planters are seen than expected. Of course, they are extremely neglected, which is not surprising considering that the fences have only been removed a few days ago. Now the chosen floral decoration is not appreciated at all, as the weeds have taken over and have grown to completely hide the original vegetation.

There is also a lot of work pending with the flora inside the Glorieta, since the plants have invaded the transit spaces, having grown uncontrollably during all these months.

Without the promised furniture

In the new square there is no new rest space. The furniture has not yet been installed, so the announced benches surrounding the square between the green spaces are not there. Neither do the bike racks.

The contours of the Glorieta show a deplorable image. The paint has chipped and looks well aged (even with graffiti). The small walls are destroyed and have not adjusted to ground level.

The Glorieta with a worse image than the one it had

The image of the interior of the Glorieta is not better, since it seems that it is still undergoing works, although there is no longer any. The floor is dirty and sticky, the water box is held in the air by two dangerous pieces of wood and the fountain is still off.

We had to wait a long time to finally see how the works on the Glorieta turned out, and it has been quite a disappointment. It is unknown how much of everything pending will be resolved soon and how much will remain as it is. We have gained a large pedestrian plaza, but the Glorieta needs a new intervention.

Comments
  1. Carmelo says:

I went by this morning to see how the Glorieta turned out and the truth is that I didn't like it at all, it is also unfinished and apparently with the city council and the concessionaire company for the works meeting in court. Bad roll.

    • Ana says:

One and a half million euros paid between everyone. Spent psoe and commitment. Without anyone asking for it. Superfluous expense. Embezzlement. And scam in terms of result.

I didn't vote for them. But those who voted for them will be happy.

  2. It says:

The problem, the lack of legal, police and serious control of the exaggerated and misplaced investments of this City Council, if we add to this a bunch of "progressive" brazens who don't give a damn, who only look out for their own interests and they laugh daily at their people (whether they voted for them or not) there we have it, the perfect cocktail of deception and embezzlement sustained over time.
    And what we have left…
    ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

  3. Manuel Femenia says:

Everything related to works in Denia smells very bad.
Everything is shoddy, from the train station, the bus station that no one understands, the shoddy work on Paseo de la Marineta, the fecal discharges into the Portet, the infernal noise of free-exhaust mopeds, not to mention the state of the beaches during All summer.
People went to the beaches of Oliva, Miramar, Piles because they couldn't stand the foul smell of the beaches full of algae.
The foul smell is political and comes from the mayor of the socialist party.
Someone is getting rich off of stealing services from the Dianenses.
And ruining business in Denia, so tourism will increasingly be of worse quality and it is becoming noticeable.
MAYOR OF +30% SALARY IN THE FIRST PLENUM.
    !!! RESIGNATION!!

  4. Pere says:

Monumental botch and waste of public money. The usual thing in this City Council.

  5. Fran says:

It seems nonsense to me. A theft that should justify every cent. That's not worth a million and a half euros.

The bills…. It smells bad here, between the shoddy work, the poor quality of execution and the money…. This doesn't smell good at all. Like the streets of Denia. It smells rotten

  6. Dani says:

Here none of those who have commented have any idea about projects and works.
They criticize for the sake of criticizing.
Except for the name of the square, the Glorieta is fine.
Proof of this is the number of pedestrians who have passed through there since the works were completed.
What is not good is the park project for the site of the old clinic.
    It is an unnecessary project.
As for the municipal corporation, it should have won the Municipal Agreement.
But he didn't get a seat on the city council.
In any case, the Neighborhood Associations should unite, hold conferences open to citizens and propose a single candidate for the city council.
    That would be fine.
And for those who don't know, writing a project costs your time and money.
    And execute it even more.
And as they say, nothing ever goes according to plan.
So the works of the Glorieta have been magnificent.

    • Dani Pesao says:

Having less idea we have more idea than those in the city council.

      • Fran says:

By the way, to what extent do you know if there is anyone - myself included - who has an idea of works and projects?

What is clear is that those who have no fucking idea are the ones who have destroyed the roundabout like this. Pose and commitment.

And of course the one who has no idea is you with that nonsensical troll comment.

    • María Ivars says:

      Neighborhood associations?
Tricks by leftist altar boys from the city hall.
      Meetings, commissions puagggggg.
What is needed here is an audit, notaries and the civil guard.
To another dog with that bone.

    • Gabriel Parini Fernandez says:

Where has the bust of the historian Chabás gone, which was next to a well-known café and which was going to be relocated?

      • raulet says:

Juan chabas. I already mentioned it. They said they were going to relocate him. But politicians lie more than they talk and it is another lie.

The bust is in the ecopark

  7. Psoe destroys everything says:

    Torrecremada also DESTROYED.

    • Pau (FR) says:

Our town council has GIFTED the Torrecremada farm to the UA for cooking classes.
We have also GIVED them the complete renovation for an amount of 50 million above the plan, which in the end will be many more.
That will also solve the cleaning, basic public services, garbage, new health center, schools and etc. without a doubt. (irony)
It is more than clear, speaking of an educational center to learn how to cook rice, who will take the biggest piece of the cake, right?

  8. Ana says:

Every work they do in Dénia has incidents and does not correspond to what was announced and exceeds the allocated budget. This is having very little respect for its inhabitants and neighbors. Hopefully someone with the power to convene can unite us to not allow this to happen. Who supervises that the work meets the agreed deadline, specified characteristics and assigned budget? It is clear that no one from the City Council... It is necessary for a group of neighbors to look after everyone's interest (there are many neighbors qualified to do so and who will surely offer to do so. Sorry for such a long message

  9. Pepa Monsonis says:

The work has not been left as it was seen in the photographs of the project and leaves a lot to be desired.
Regarding the dirt left by the construction company, it is unacceptable that the walls of the streets that they have modified are full of splashes of material. It is not believable.
The section from Pare Pérez and San José streets to number 5 is no man's land, the surroundings have been left lying around (Morán alley, Cavallers street, last section of San José street from the library to Loreto street). and it is with Pza. Valgamedios. They have left a piece where the garbage containers are, the loading and unloading area whose noises with forklifts and trucks or vans that leave the engine running to maintain the air conditioning and what the City Council does not know. It is that at that junction point of San José, Caballero and Mayor streets along with the area of smelly containers, it is where the clients of the hotels in the area wait for their taxi, where the tourists go with their GPS and commenting on the area , looking for an "entire" historic center without a piece of street in poor condition and with the smell of garbage.
Regarding the socialists' comment and despite my complaints, the right would not have done better, quite the opposite. We have already had right-wing legislatures and they have looked out for their own, not for Denia.

  10. Renate says:

Armes Denia

  11. Jopelin says:

With the Glorieta botched job finished(??), now the beginning of the site of the old ambulatory is missing.
Pay attention…and find a place to see his pharaonic work

  12. Rae says:

    Definition of bungling

    • PERE QUART says:

Just look at the sailor's ride. The blue paint on the markers and streetlights is Third World. The third curved viewpoint was "fixed" by removing the curved shape and there are the exposed concrete blocks.
It smells very bad in the works of this town hall, the value of the works does not correspond to the quality sold to the citizen.
Someone is making money on behalf of the residents of Denia.
      MAYOR RESIGNATION

  13. Ignacio says:

But hey, the People have voted for these people, so let them enjoy what they voted for.

  14. Luis says:

Socialism. People who have never dedicated themselves to anything professionally and manage everyone's money to continually screw up. The sector doesn't matter. Manolete, if you don't know how to bullfight, why do you get involved? But nothing happens, Denia will continue voting the same.

    • Ignacio says:

Just Socialism? Hahaha, how little political culture you have. All climbers involved in politicians do the same. Tell me one who doesn't, come on...

      • Oracle says:

Here is what we have, socialism.

So it would be worth focusing on what is here and not throwing things out to divert attention.

Socialism is a ruin, here, in Beijing, and in Pokon. Worship.

      • Luis says:

I tell you several. Madrid, Las Rozas, Majadahonda, Benicasim... They don't make a place for you like shit is even a joke. Go out a little and really find out what they are stealing and screwing you over. And I prefer not to get involved in garbage, cleaning, maintenance, urban planning... to shoot myself. What a cancer.

      • Daniel says:

What a shame for the country and the people, in whose hands we are, but let's enjoy what was voted.
It is normal for them to win elections, since 2/3 of the population depends on their paychecks and it is a captive vote. Socialism is misery, he who really works supports the rest, I hope Miley makes a complete turn with her liberal policies and they move to the rest of the world, the culture of effort with these people does not exist, they love us all the same and increasingly poorer and dependent on their paychecks

  15. Sara says:

Finally a more objective and critical report on the city council on denia.com. What happened? Have they taken away your subsidies?

  16. Resignations already says:

They will be happy DESTROYING the gazebo cost:

MORE THAN ONE AND A HALF MILLION EUROS.

  17. Tina says:

A shame, but they still reward it. It's a real shame what happens here...
