25% of the Participatory Budgets will be decided by the elderly and young people of Dénia

23 September 2023 - 09: 09

The seventh edition of the participatory budgets of the Dénia City Council comes with a notable novelty compared to previous years, arising from the desire to reinforce Dénia's commitments as a Child-Friendly City (UNICEF) and as a member of the Network of Child-Friendly Cities. Older Persons (WHO). The councilors of Citizen Participation, Pepe Doménech, and the Third Age, Marta Gasco, they explained this Friday at a press conference the details of this new call.

The novelty is that this year the City Council will allocate a quarter of the total municipal budget dedicated to participatory budgets to proposals made by children, adolescents and the elderly.

Thus, of the total 400,000 euros allocated to the participatory budgets in 2023, 100,000 will be dedicated to the execution of the actions decided by an intergenerational commission made up of representatives of the Local Council for Children and Adolescence, the Council for the Elderly and the Neighborhood Council .

The remaining budget will be used, as until now, to carry out actions proposed and voted on by citizens.

The population will be able to present their improvement proposals for any public space in which the city council has powers from October 2 to 29. The presentation of ideas can be done through the website participadenia.es, in the Dénia App, by writing an email to Pciutadana@ayto-denia.es, during the neighborhood meetings that will be held in the month of October or by going to the Portelles Participation Space (calle del Pare Pere, 17).

After this first phase, technical staff from the city council will study the viability of the proposals presented during the month of November and those that are selected will be submitted to the vote of the citizens between December 1 and 20, 2023.

New participation mechanism for older people

In the previously mentioned line of carrying out actions framed in Dénia's commitment as a member of the Network of Age-Friendly Cities (OMS), the Councilor for the Elderly, Marta Gascó, has announced a new participation mechanism with which "we want to give more voice to the city's older people, encourage dialogue and promote their active participation."

Thus, the Department of the Elderly is going to launch, starting in October, a monthly meeting with older people, which will be held in the morning at the Social Center.

The meeting will be held following an agenda that will include information to attendees about aid, calls, works and other topics that directly affect the elderly population.

  1. We are crazy now says:

»a quarter of the total municipal budget dedicated to participatory budgets to proposals put forward by the children's population»

We are crazy. A child is going to have decisions about public money. It's aberrant.

  2. They treat us like idiots says:

What is participatory budgeting? They wash their hands and don't want to work? We blame someone else for the dead.

It is not your job to manage the best option. Or is it about winning votes? I do not understand. Participatory so that. It has already been voted. Work! If you have €50 and you have to buy food, you are not going to do a survey at home: food or tobacco. Or if? Go now.
