The Lovers / The Lovers Trailer from Joan Vives on Vimeo.

The short film, directed by Joan Vives and produced by Agustí Mezquida for Disproportionate Films, is a Valencian production that tells the story of Teresa (Imma Sancho), a woman unable to overcome the shipwreck of her husband Ovidi (Josep Manel Cassany) that occurred ten years ago. Mayor Batiste (Berna Llobell) has since closed the beach with chains and padlocks to residents and tourists. Every day, dozens of devoured fish appear on the beach, fueling the popular belief that a sea monster lives in the depths. Everything will change when Teresa falls into the sea and discovers that her husband is still alive, but with a very different physical appearance. The film's cast is completed by Pepa López in the role of Marisol and Ferran Gadea in the role of Manolo.

Filmed in local settings such as Les Rotes from Dénia, the Cova Tallada de Xàbia and the fishing neighborhood of La Vila Joiosa, the film narrates with a touch of magical realism a story of passion inspired by the collective imagination of the legends of Enric Valor and the poem the lovers by Vicent Andrés Estellés, while paying tribute to Ovidi Montllor, author of the rhapsody of this poem.

The project has also had the collaboration of the Association of Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurs of the Marina Alta (AEHTMA) and the Real Club Náutico de Dénia.

The short film has been selected in several festivals and has received important recognitions, such as the Movistar+ Short Project Award at the Medina del Campo Film Week, two FUGAZ Awards for best production direction and best special effects, and the Award for best short film from the Valencian Community at the Pequeno d'Asp Film Festival.
