Dénia produces 200.000 tons of CO2 per year: what are the main emitters?

En los últimos días la arena y las nubes nos han dado una tregua, permitiéndonos contemplar de nuevo el cielo azul que tanto caracteriza a Dénia. Un cielo que sirve como reclamo turístico, que ha permitido prosperar a la ciudad… y que nuestras emisiones lo ensucian a diario.

The Ministry of Ecological Transition has presented this week the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory, a decision-making tool that quantifies and identifies the emissions of the municipalities of the Valencian Community.

In the results of the work, an alarming fact can be seen: Dénia is emitting 199.227,73 net tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. And this already taking into account the poor absorption of natural spaces in comparison to the gross emission, which amounts to 203.282,05 tons.

This is the conclusion of the data collected in 2019 (selecting that year so that the measures adopted by the pandemic would not interfere), in which we verified that it would correspond to an emission of 4,73 tons of CO2 per resident on average.

Now, what are the main emitters of greenhouse gases in Dénia? Unlike other large cities in the Community, more than half of Dianense emissions come from transport. Specifically, it is 57,46%, followed by the energy sector, responsible for 35,91%, and far behind industry (2,38%) and agriculture (2,10%).

Y si desgranamos más aún, comprobamos que el transporte privado, los automóviles que circulan a diario, son los causantes de una cuarta parte de toda la contaminación (52.700,60 toneladas anuales, el 25’93% del total). También influye en sus altas cifras de emisiones su geografía, ya que al contar con mar hay que añadir el tránsito de los transportes náuticos, responsables del 15,67% de los gases de efecto invernadero de la ciudad.

    They are already preparing the ground to put more taxes on us! Everything is the fault of the citizen and they are going to charge us even for breathing. You see the duster. They already charge us €140 for rubbish and it doesn't matter if the family is 1 or 20, the case is robbery and rob us. Why don't they eliminate most of the politicians who only serve to annoy us... that way they would save a lot and let us live in peace.
    There is no one to swallow the C02 thing.

    To reduce traffic in Denia, you have to make a ring road that goes around Denia from the funeral home to the yacht club and complete Joan Fuster to the McDonalds roundabout. Make the bottleneck of Plaza Jaime I disappear and facilitate the arrival of traffic to the port through a north ring road.

    There are 4 million left over from the budget and almost all of it is used to buy votes. That is what it seems.

    Yes, CO2 is a greenhouse gas, but at a concentration of 400 PPM (0,04%) it is not proven that it makes much of a difference, and it is not proven whether CO2 is a source or a result of global warming. Beware, it may be another money game.

      It is difficult to believe that with a participation of 0,04% in the composition of the air, although this figure will double, this is the reason for the greenhouse effect. If there is one.

        Whatever you want but compare the air you breathe in the middle of a city with all the traffic you breathe in the middle of the field or next to the beach. Above Madrid or Barcelona there is usually a nice brown cloud.

      What squeaks is "cities in the area" I have never seen so many "cities" with the appearance of towns. That desire to pretend that they are not lacking and then there is not even a public transport in conditions

    If the use of the bike were made easier and encouraged, there would be much less traffic. It has been done in other cities with very good results. The current infrastructure is dangerous for cycling, there are only some protected sections, others are dangerous because cars have very little space to overtake. In addition, something should also be done on the Les Marines road, where many cars travel at high speed and bikes have to go along the hard shoulder in very poor condition.

        Well, by public transport, as in all civilized cities in the Western world. Denia works with a medium-sized city urbanism in Southeast Asia. We lack the rickshaws

When Barcelona is considered a small city next to London or Paris… Denia does not even reach the minimum city, a poorly communicated coastal population with serious deficiencies in public infrastructures because they prefer to spend their money on parties.     It does not appear that the parking changes have been made with a good analysis of the conditions and consequences. The closure of Calle Marqués de Campo and other changes made to try to improve pedestrian space is a disaster and what it does is that users continue to turn around and produce more CO2. Changes must be made reasonably and efficiently. For example, ban vehicles of a certain capacity from entering the city and many more.

    Mass tourism is what it is. How does everything get in summer? And now with the Covid era, everything is full of displaced people from the cities. If any natural area is transformed into a parking lot, it ceases to be so natural. Those beaches and coves to bursting with cars circulating or with the specialty of car stopped with the engine running for half an hour as some do on the beach, town and countryside. A lot of searching for a natural area to destroy it later. The times of an educated and responsible tourism were forgotten.

        Another with the refrain…perhaps it would be the way to promote other forgotten economic sectors that do not have any type of institutional support. Ask yourself how it is possible that before the massive tourist speculation there was an industry here. I knew it? Or do you think that here we have always been "your waiter servants"? Or maybe that situation would not interest him because then he would have to integrate into society and learn to speak Spanish to begin with.
