Dénia launches a campaign to dismantle prejudices and misinterpretations about equality on the occasion of Women's Day

February 27 from 2024 - 16: 10

The Department of Equality presents the programming on the occasion of March 8, International Women's Day 2024, developed transversally with the collaboration of other departments of the Dénia City Council -Culture, Sports, Youth, Market, Libraries and Seniors- and Local and regional entities and associations such as UNED Dénia, Matria Asociación de Mujeres, Creama, Cruz Roja and the Association of Housewives of Dénia, all of them integrated into the Women's Council.

The theme on which this year's 8M campaign will focus revolves around the question "What is equality?", whose purpose is "to return to the starting point in making inequality between women and men visible, banishing the concept of a misunderstood equality that does not go against men, highlight concepts such as co-responsibility, equal opportunities, family conciliation, and raise awareness among citizens in the fight against discrimination, eradicating prejudices around the term", points out the councilor for Equality, Javier Scotto.

The implementation of this campaign is one of the actions included in the IV Municipal Plan for Equal Opportunities between women and men of the city of Dénia (2023-2027) and has the specific objective of "raising awareness among citizens about the term 'equality. 'After the diagnosis prior to the drafting of the IV PIOM, the lack of knowledge and erroneous association of the definition of the term among the population was detected,' explains the councilor.

The campaign image shows a 'multitasking' woman in her daily life, who takes care of work, family, home, care... and everything, under the aesthetic pressure that is also imposed on her. «It reflects that there is still much to do, it is an image that wants to draw the attention of society to act to achieve a more real equality, at the same time that it wants to make men aware of the privileges, not at all egalitarian, that today in day they still enjoy it in front of women," says Scotto. «Equality between women and men, in addition to rights and freedoms, is the express prohibition of all discrimination before the law, but also the existence of resources and opportunities for their development. And for that, it is not just about helping or supporting, it is necessary that men take responsibility for all types of tasks in life," she adds.

Regarding the program of activities, it will extend throughout the month of March and includes varied proposals such as photography and poster exhibitions, sports activities, talks, film forums, storytelling, literary events and shows, all free and open to the public.

Thank goodness that politicians know how to think and that citizens are wrong. They save us from our mistakes and educate us. What would we do without them?
